That's got to be the seriously frustrating part for duck fans. Kelly is probably another year away from having to decide what next to do with his career and instead of staying with the HC they had and just firing Hoke and going after a big name DC knowing they might have a good chance at Kelly again next year, they fire Helfrich with no one in the wings and end up with a guy that's also an offensive minded HC whose team was not great on defense and now make it highly unlikely they make a play for Kelly next year when his NFL career is probably over.

Seriously. I didn't think firing Helfrich was a bad move, but they handled the whole thing about as terribly as possible. Should have probably given him another year with how it all went down.

I'm sure looking at it now if they could go back and do it all over again they wouldn't have fired helfrich. His recruiting class was still solid and they had a hell of a potential safety net in Kelly looming if that all fell apart next year.
