Different time, player, position, and team.

No shit.

Still, it would be remarkable for a team to DFA a player with a $140-150MM left on their contract, and I GUARANTEE there'd be a list of teams willing to take a chance on him at league minimum, so the Cubs would be paying Heyward $140MM to play for another team.

I'm one of those 'never say never' folks, but your scenario seems INCREDIBLY far-fetched for me.

Heyward is stealing more money than anyone in the Majors right now. He got nearly a quarter billion and the dude is batting .230 in the reg season and .05 in the postseason.

Blame the front office for thinking a role player was worth superstar money.

All I remember from Alexis' career is yelling I got it when running the bases, roids, and having some hoe feed him popcorn.

Based on that, I'm guessing you're about fifteen years old.

Have you gotten your drivers temps yet? Such an exciting time in a young boy's life!

I think you're selling them a little short, Stan. Granted, this year he's been shite ("role player" might be generous), but in the three previous years, he slashed .274/.353/.415/.768 with a 113 OPS+. Couple that with his defensive play, and that's a pretty valuable piece.

I'm not justifying his contract, I'm just saying that heading into this season, he was well more than a role player.

Heyward had a down year no doubt but it's not really fair to beat the Cubs up on the deal. The guy has been a quality hitter and an elite defender up til the point the Cubs signed him. He's still really young so I think it's jumping the gun to write him iff. The real question is where is he going to play next year? I guess if the Cubs let Fowler go you have room but with Schwatber coming back you're still going to have a dearth of outfield talent so they'll need to figure that out

To early to give up on Hayward. Is he having a swing issue? Sure. Can it be worked on during the off season and training camp? Sure. Is the WS THE time to work on it. No.

Arrieta pitched a great game, that first inning was key. Jake was struggling to find his control and Ramirez just missed hitting that 3 run jack, could have changed the whole game. Now it's time for Tomlin to step up in a Game 3 in Chicago, it's going to be crazy in Wrigley

Cubs did not play Soler when the grass is wet in Wrigley, so even if he is cleared, I really doubt he plays. But if he does, Kyle Schwarber could be the World Series MVP because you know he will drive in runs. I will take pinch hit homers in three games and still give it to him.

This is my first post ever in the Baseball forum because your sport's boring as fuck BUT after catching a documentary recently about how you pathetic Cubs fans ruined Steve Bartman's life because the fucking guy did nothing more than catch a ball that got hit to him, I hope the Cubs go down.

That's all....continue with watching paint dry.

I can't decide if I want to punch you in the balls or kiss you on the mouth.

Cub fans...can Schwarber become a usable catcher? Or will he end up being a DH, stuck in the NL, bouncing around from position to position...hoping he produces more runs than his defense gives up?

Based on his age and body type, I'm thinking it's the later. Seems like if he can't play C, he's a 1B or maybe 3B or needs to move to an AL team.
