Boychuk and Seguin deals along with a few bloated salaries did him in but I honestly think it's the toxic contracts he's signed people to more so than the Seguin deal. it was clear that Seguin was never going to score more than 25-30 in Julien's system. and his off ice behavior was unsuitable for this team. so that trade wasn't so bad in the grand scheme of things. However, the toxic Chara contract and other bad deals like Chris Kelly, Jarome Iginla, Milan Lucic and Brad Marchand, all hamstrung the team from bringing in the talent needed to compete. Throw in his horrible draft record and you get the reasons why Chiarelli was fired.

I'm surprised by this actually. Seems a silly move. Personal change and a fresh coach would be a great start IMO.

As far as I can tell the last HOF player to win the Cup as coach was Robinson. That was 15 years ago. Before that? Tom Johnson, 1972.

I'm sure there's a nice big list of HOF players who coached unsuccessfully, though.

I know the Bruins had a lot of injuries, but I knew they were in trouble before the first game when Chara seemed stunned by the Boychuk trade. Chiarelli's failure to know his lockeroom is why they missed the playoffs. I realize they had to make a trade to get under the salary cap. He obviously should have traded somebody else.

You may be right. If the ever brought Torts into beantown I would turn into a Hab's fan. Bylsma is not the answer either. Not sure who but I want to see scoring and not all defense all the time.
