I agree, but the "hard slide to take out a player has been going on for years and years. IMO, MLB has to address this in the "off season".

That he didn't start his slide until he was even with the base. You are supposed to start the slide before you get to the base, not when you are at it.

How long have you been watching baseball? Players going into second base have been breaking up double plays with that type of slide every since I have been watching baseball and that has been 70 years. I remember seeing an ex Giant player, Jeff Kent doing exactly the same thing, trying to break up double plays. The only reason that Utley's slide is drawing attention is that it broke Tejada leg. No doubt this type of slide has to be addressed in the off season, but not in the playoffs.

He probably did that when he has with the Dodgers. When he played for the Giants, he followed all rules - written or otherwise.

It was a loose translation of Rule 5.09(a)(13) which states that a player is out if he intentionally interferes with a fielder who is attempting to catch a thrown ball. Intentional collisions are against MLB rules.

Here's some more just in case you didn't understand that part:

"The objective of this rule is to penalize the offensive team for deliberate, unwarranted, unsportsmanlike action by the runner in leaving the baseline for the obvious purpose of crashing the pivot man on a double play, rather than trying to reach the base," the 2015 MLB rulebook states.
