Wang was not the problem... the problem was that the town of Hempstead fucked up!!! why would anyone ever want to play for a team that plays in Nassau coliseum the way it looked?? Wang tried many times to make it better... And if it was up to him the islanders would have remained on long island and played in a great stadium... In fact if it was up to him, the Brooklyn nets would probably be playing in long island as well...

I live on Long Island, 15 minutes from there, they wanted to raise taxes to pay for the new arena, my family quickly shut that down. And as did most of Long Island.

I too live 15 minutes away, Probably next door to you Johnny... But by shutting it down, it also killed the industry that the town of Hempstead needs... The Nassau coliseum is now going to be used for concerts and other things, but it is such a crappy venue, that it might as well be just torn down... It was a huge mistake to let the islanders move... even if you are a rangers fan!!!

Depends on where you are, Elmont, over here!

The arena is runned down, I wish it would be fixed up, I'm gonna miss the 15 minute drive to watch the Rangers beat them.

Last time I was at the Nassau had to be 8 or 9 years ago and it was falling apart (literally) at the time. Can't have gotten any better

There is a certain mystique to that. I know its crap like when I went back to the Pacific Coliseum before the renos for 2010 but its pretty neat walking around the really old arenas with the history they have. sad when they are gone.

Problem is its not historic old like Maple Leaf Garden, Boston Garden, Chicago Stadium, Montreal Forum etc. ( I was to Chicago & Boston before they closed, not the others). It's a 1970's era arena that hasn't been maintained. Probably 10 years ago they had to close parts of the upper deck (since re-opened) because chunks of concrete were falling. Also the bathrooms frequently back up and other good stuff. It's a dump in a crappy town, most of Long Island is nice (parts are beautiful & expensive) but Hempstead is the pitts.
