has a shoulder injury, and there is talk that it could jeopardize his season. Think they put in a call to Mike Brown if this is true?

IDK why they would. There season is over. Why trade a draft pick for Palmer now. They have as good a chance as anyone, especially with Henne hurt to get Luck.

Fair point. I wouldn't either, but that doesn't mean Miami is thinking the same thing.

That also doesn't mean Saprano whose job is in major jeopardy along with their GM whose job is in major jeopardy aren't thinking that too.

There was the rumor last week about Miami offering a 3rd. I think they could offer the house and Mike would decline. I don't think he's done make his point yet.

Yeah, I don't think it'll happen, but I think Miami might make a call.

I actually kinda like Sprano...but if the season is over and he's losing I'd keep him employed. If you're not going anywhere you might as well lose big and have a shot at Luck. Hope they trade for Carson...maybe Dalton playing well at times will soften MB's stance. I wouldnt take anything less than a 2nd for him..

I think Seattle being on the WC interests Palmer, and Seattle has no QB, and in that division, it is anybody's. Seattle would probably still offer a 1st round pick and maybe a lower conditional pick to nab Palmer to save their season and have a good veteran leader for the next several years.

it will be interesting if anything is done.... it would be I would think on the eve or the deadline of trading, wouldn't that be where his value for a trade would be at the highest?

His value could be higher if the trade is with San Francisco, but with any other team (Seattle, Miami) who will be that much further out of the playoff race, it'll be lower.

Hypothetically, if I were sitting at 1-5, 1) I'd rather just play out the season and see how high of a draft pick I can get and 2) I know the pick is going to be high no matter what, so I don't want to overpay for Palmer by giving up a high 1st. This, as opposed to 1) sitting at 1-3 where I may still feel the season can be salvaged and 2) Palmer has a good portion of the season left to get acclimated and I would only be giving up say a mid-first pick as opposed to the high 1st pick. So, for those teams (Seattle, Miami), his value is only dropping.

In San Francisco's case, they'll be front runners for the division win, so they may become more desperate as the deadline approaches.

I agree. I don't think he has much value at all in Miami. The ownership will more than likely can the coach in the offseason. If they bring in a new coach, the new coach will want to choose his own quarterback and might not be crazy about Palmer. Better off just playing out the games and making changes during the offseason.

With SF and Seattle they have stability in the coaching staff (I can't see Seattle giving up on Carrol after 2 seasons), so they might be interested. SF has a defense that can win right now, but the offense is terrible. I guess the question is whether Palmer could really contribute right away and be a better option than Alex Smith. I have my doubts he would be successful if he played this season.

No one is giving up a first rounder for Palmer. Most likely a second or third, but not too high of a second. No since trading away your future for someone who might not work out, and if he doesn't, he may even pull the same "trade me or I quit" routine on his next team. yea, the chance of that happening is probably 1%, but he has put on his own stink cologne and these other ball clubs can smell it.

Teams have other options for next season, so they don't need to give up a first rounder for Palmer. For starters, 3 blue chip prospects in the 2012 draft, the availability of David Garrard. Either Kyle Orton or Tebow will likely get released. McNair is probably too good to be a backup.

The 49ers situation is tough. He would be coming in for the 7th week, so still giving him 11 weeks to get situated for the playoffs. So it's plenty of time to get acclimated.

Looking at the season averages, the 49ers are 28th in yards but 13th in points. Having only watched one 49ers game, the difference might be due to small sample size and the defense or ST having scored. Or it could be that they don't move down the field often, but when they do, Smith makes most of the opportunities and goes for 7 points. The latter case (though I have serious doubts this is the case) would decrease Palmer's value for them considering he may not be able to convert as many opportunities into 7 versus 3.

That said, Palmer would likely open up their offense. Teams would have to respect him, at the very least moreso than Smith, opening up the inside for Gore who has struggled so far this season. Personally, I believe they'd have nowhere to look but up.

**Upon recollection, Ted Ginn did have the punt return for TD and kick return for TD just in Game 1. So that's likely a huge part of the difference between the ranking in yards and points.
