So...we've gone from "some of the best hitters" to "mostly solid players"

winning.

I'm not really in a competition

I've seen the sabemetric geeks on baseball tonight, Its really no surprise that none of them ever partaked in an athletic activity

RBIs mean runs. Scoring runs win baseball games

One of the simplest formulas in the sport

I'd venture to bet that some of the best lineups in history has a handful of guys with big RBI numbers

if youre going with the "fenway" thing, he had 2 more HR at home that year, but 21 fewer RBI at home vs the road

His home road splits are disgusting

Totally average baseball player outside of Fenway

The only thing I disagree with you is putting more value on the guy that hit the 12 hopper to 2nd, than the guy that roped a double to left center and stole 3rd...

Don't get me wrong..there are plenty of times a guy hits a swinging bunt single and then scores when the next pitch is hit 500 feet...

It's why I weight them equally...and based on your word choice (bolded part), I'd think you would too...

If you compare Pedroia on the road vs. everyone else's total...he looks average. but this is retarded...

When you compare Pedroia on the road, vs. everyone else ON THE ROAD...he's well above average...

in fact..only 2 2nd basemen have been better since he's been a full time player...

Dear Commissioner Selig

Can you please look into the rumors that Alex Rodriguez is using steroids? In all my years of baseball, I have never known of one player to use these, and find it reprehensible that he would do this.
By the way, we recently signed him to a ridiculous extension regardless of these unfounded rumors

your pal, George.

No discussion of Hernandez arrest? Or did you Boston guys know about it hours before Raporport went into a tailspain and vomited 117 tweets in a 3 second span rewording the same statement in every imaginable combination of words?

Hammer,

Can we start letting all the other guys back in? It's getting really fucking boring in here. NO offense Fizzle.

I can't speak for HD, but the last time I heard from those guys they said they would never come back. I have zero idea if the sentiment has changed, but even if the doors were opened it didn't sound like they would come back.

If you posted this before that, I could have turned you on to a delightful time in NY

Come on .... don't be like that.

I chose to visit NY .... not Boston.

Doesn't that grant me one "get out of jail free card?"

Then wouldn't be best to weigh runs AND RBIs?

They are good stats with Context...Not so much stand alone IMO..

It was touched on earlier. Everyone is too busy talking about the Rangers loss though.

Runs Created?

R + RBI - HR's

before you freak out about HR's being excluded, it's only because when a guy hits a HR he's credited with both a run and RBI for himself..1 solo HR = 1 RBI + 1R = 2 total RC if you didn't...but we both know only 1 run was added to the scoreboard.

it measures how many run scoring plays a hitter was directly involved in. It's still heavily dependent on outside contributions, so quality of the lineup around a guy is a factor...but it's far better than R or RBI individually, as it takes all forms of run production into account.

1983

Armas had 64 RBIs at Fenway

and 43 RBIs on the road

he hit .186 on the road that year with an OPS of .620

Thats the definition of backing in sprinkled with being a product of Fenway.

And Aaron Hernandez was just released.

Is Dustin Pedroia at home, a far better player than on the road?

If so, it's impossible to conclude that the dimensions of Fenway are not greatly enhancing who he really is as a hitter
