What's up fellas! Who's going to be dealt before the draft? Bryzgalov sounds almost a done deal or will be very soon. I think Carter has to be the odd man out for the simple reason he brings a lot of value back ( draft picks and player(s). I hope Homer does the right thing.

I think Homer loves Carter. I did hear on NHL radio on Sirius, however, that 20 teams would be interested in Carter. The other player they discussed, Carle. The lack of scoring in the Post season was concerning. I think we have more depth with younger players on defense than offense so I would think Carle is more expendable. JMHO

I am pretty sure Homer needs to be offered more than Carter's worth to be traded. While my dream is to have pronger gone, he'll be staying. That makes moving a younger D Man in Carle risky.

I know they love Carter...but we lose the ability to trade him when the season starts...no trade clause kicks in...Carter is a funny player he can score 20 goals in 8 games and then 10 over the rest of the season...lol...really no show in the playoffs year after year...if the flyers can play with a strong hand during the draft...who knows...

It's funny, but I could actually see both of them being dealt in the draft. Homer knows he has to improve this team and hopefully he finally realizes that he needs to plan out future years with the cap now. So 13 forawrds, 7 Defensemen, 2 goalies for a grand total of 22 players about 600k below the cap.

I'd love to see the flyers send Carter and Carle to CB for something like the 8th overall pick, Vorachek and Umberger. We'd definately be giving up some scoring but may actually not drop off too much in overall depth. Then if we moved Versteeg we could also resign Leino. The roster would look something like this(with either Versteeg or Leino, not both).

I agree with having to part with Carter.
The flyers are loaded at center, and should be able to grab some good picks for him.

IMO, I think Van Riemsdyk is going to have a breakout year, for close to 30 goals which will be close to making up for Carter.I,m also hoping that Wellwood make the team this year.

I had the fortune of watching Wellwood play for our hometown Spitfires, and this kid is the complete package.

Nice scenario.

The only thing that pisses me off,is when we bring back,or try to bring back guys that I feel,we never should have dealt.Umberger,Upshall,Sharp,etc..it drives me nuts.

I totally agree on Umberger and Sharp, I'm actually glad we traded Upshall though since last season he was a total douche in Phoenix expecting to get paid like a 30-40 goal a year guy but hadn't broke 20 a year at that point in the pros.

Bringing umberger back is probably out of the question at this point, but I played against him in high school and I've never seen anyone who works as hard as him on the ice. We could use another guy like that and pray that his work ethic is contagious, plus he's good for 50-60 points a year and would compliment out team with a little more size up front.

Good post.

The thing with Upshall was,he,or moreso his wife, made it very public how upset he was with being dealt from Philly.IMO he took it too damn personally, and it really affected his performance.

He's still a great energy player, but 30 points is his ceiling IMO.

I think Carle is def gone. Carter only gets moved as an absolute last resort OR if Homer gets blown away with an awesome offer that he can't refuse.

There's a lot of mixed emotions when it comes to him. Personally, I like him and want to keep him.

I'm sorry... :L, I meant Brad Richards, rumors are he has his eyes on the Altlantic division.

Brad Richards---Tampa/Rangers/Leafs, he wants to play in the east apparently, would be a good fit in L.A though.

Bounce Carle he is a ufa next year anyways, Coburn is to but resign him. Get Mesarjos into the top 4 like he should be. Cater doesn't go anywhere unless Philly gets an offer that they can't refuse. Also bounce Versteeg resign Leino, and try and get Andrew Brunnette.

Found this from Meltzer [for whatever it's worth]:

Strictly for argument's sake, let's say the Flyers did end up making a deal with Columbus that sent Carter to CBJ and the deal brought back Jakob Voracek (Columbus' 2007 first-round pick), young defenseman John Moore (a Columbus 2009 first-round pick) and the 8th overall pick of the 2011 draft.

Then let's say the Flyers flipped the 8th pick plus Versteeg to Florida for the 3rd overall pick. With that pick, the Flyers would likely get one of defenseman Adam Larsson or winger Gabriel Landeskog. Florida, which needs to add a heap of salary just to get to the cap floor, would get a player Tallon knows well from his Chicago days and who could be plugged right into their top six. They would also still get a pretty good prospect with the 8th pick of the draft.

The Flyers would lose Carter and Versteeg under that scenario but, on the flip side, would be able to resign Leino, would add Voracek to the forward corps and the promising Moore (who struggled as a pro rookie, as so many young defensemen do) to the blueline mix, and add a blue-chipper either in projected future first-paring defenseman Larsson or the gritty and potentially NHL-ready Landeskog to the forward mix.

I am not saying that I think the Flyers will, should or even would be able to do this. But it some food for hypothetical thought during Silly Season. I don't think it would put Philly in better shape on paper for a 2011-12 Cup run, but I do think it could extend the Cup window beyond the next year or two.

Interesting @ least...
