Our team gets to start the season with one of those 10 am road games.
Since we get to play 5 East coast start times, I am glad our 1st game of the year is one of these games.
I expect us to run the ball, whether we are successful at it or not. Offensively, we will play smash mouth early and often, finding out who is tougher, our run game or their run defense. As this rolls along it will set up our play action game. We are very hard to stop when the table is set for PA.
Defensively, we will contain Cam for the most part. Their team is going to have a difficult day going up against the Seahawk D.

I think this is a tougher game then people think. I dont know why I just have a feeling.

Good news its looking like they are getting healthy. Clemons wont play but will start practicing this week. Avril and Hill are probably a game time decisions at best.
However guys like McDaniel, Mebane, Bennett, Rice and Stephen Williams will practice and should be good to go.

I think what happens on 3rd down will be huge on both sides of the ball. Get in 3rd and managable and move the chains. Get to the QB on 3rd down and get off the field.

I have to work for all but maybe the first 20 minutes (of real time, not game action time) of the game, so I'm hoping that the Seahawks start strong while I'm able to watch it so I can feel better about the game when I have to stop watching and get to work. One of the most difficult things about games that start that early when you aren't used to it, in my opinion, is coming out of the gate fast. If the Seahawks can come out of the gate and score on their first drive (preferably a touchdown) and then hold Carolina on defense in their first drive, or vice-versa depending on which team gets the ball first, it'll give them an opportunity to settle in without worrying about having to play catch-up at the same time. Along the lines of what Coug said, third downs are going to be huge, especially early on.

Smith may actually swing on one of them.

When we played Carolina last year, Smith was very upset with getting manhandled all day long, I expect Sunday to be more of the same.

I really like the under and have to check if it's come down from the 45 it was set at last week. I think it's going to be closer than 11. Maybe 7 or under.

I hope we don't play smash mouth early. That is Carolina's strength with their front 7 and that is what they're going to expect us to do because that's our typical ammo. Attack their secondary which is their weakness and then mix in our pound and ground. We'll see what Bevell decides soon enough.

The guy that always scares me is Ted Ginn. I wouldn't take the return chance especially with Ryan's leg. You out kick the coverage and only bad bad bad things insue. I'll take a 40 yd punt out of bounds than a 52 ydr with the risk of a TD return. Make Carolina's O beat us and I can't see that happening.

I'd be hesitant to bet this one... big time.. this isn't going to be a walk in the park for Seattle.

I clearly feel that Seattle is the better football team....

BUT..

LOTS of intangibles make this a tough, tough game...

1) Opening day...
2) East Coast
3) 10:00 a.m. pst Start time
4) 49'ers looming week 2

If I had to quess... I'd say that the Hawks win a Squeaker and escape with their lives... If I had to bet, I think the Panthers are probably the better play right now.

The money is headed Hawks direction. In the past 10 minutes, the Hawks went from -3 -120
to -3.5 -105 or you can buy it down to -3 -130.

I'm not big on road favorites, never have been. The road fave I do like and the $$ is flowing that direction is on Tampa Bay which is now the same line as the Hawks vs Panthers. The Jets are a mess but TB on the road? Simms could be the best Jet QB and assume it's going to be Geno. He's not ready.

Dang, I also like the Texans and the $$ is now flowing on them. 10 minutes on a Tuesday and the lines are already moving? Texans are a road fave at San Diego on MNF.

That's what this vcash monopoly $$ is for, cakes. Throw it around and see what happens. I wouldn't put real cash on the Hawks because of some of the intangibles you mentioned but I will for Vcash monopoly $$. I like the Hawks vs 9ers at home at a logical forecasted -3 in game #2 than -3.5 on the road vs the Panthers in game #1. I could still see the Hawks winning 20-12.

I predict a hammerin defensive struggle in the first half. like a 6-3 type score at the half. Maybe even 10-3 with a Panther lead. I predict 13-10 Seahawks win. It wouldn't surprise me if they were to take a loss here. It still is a 4 loss season in my prediction. One could be here.

I think Seattle can win by 10+pts if 2 things happen, and they have to happen. 1. Generate a pass rush and press Cam all day. 2. Do not allow the Panthers to convert the third and longs. Those 2 things have plagued the Hawks in the past. If this happens I think the Hawks win 23-10. If this doesn't happen, I still think the Hawks win 16-13 but it's a struggle.

I for whatever feel uneasy about this one. Im not sure if its because our D-Line is a little banged up or simply because its a 10 am road opener.
Panthers have a great front 7. Davis, Keuchly and Beason are a solid line backing group. Johnson and Hardy are great pass rushers as DEs. We need to be able to protect Wilson on 3rd down. Their secondary doesn't scare me so if we can give Russell time we should be able to convert big plays.
The nice thing about having our pass rush banged up is that you dont necessarily need a huge pass rush against a guy like Cam Newton. We need to contain him rather then rush him. I want Newton to stay in the pocket and make him beat us there.

Hard game to call, other then the Seahawks will end up with a win IMO. I feel like the offense isn't quite ready yet. The starting unit just haven't been together getting reps. Having vets like Rice and Miller missing all preseason is so 2012 like. The good news is Russell Wilson and Golden Tate are building on last year and the running game should do fine.

The defense will be fine, I think. We won't see a lot of sacks, but they'll contain Cam from running and force him to try to beat us by passing and end up playing right into our strength.

21-10 Seahawks

I also live in North Carolina...

It's actually going to be pretty hot and humid on Sunday... it has been an uncharacterically cool and wet summer in in NC...

I expect lots of players cramping up this Sunday.

That book is favorite skewed. 5dimes @ -110 , TB is -3.5, Hawks -3.5 , and Texans buy to -116 at -3.5.

It sucks to lose the hook but it sure is better than - 4, -4.5 and -5 respectively. Many fg games but there are also the 20-16, the 27-23, the 21 - 17 type games where your -3.5 is good. -4.5 might as well be -5.5.

TB seems too easy which is scary. Doug Martin, VJack, MWilliams with a solid OL. Freeman just play conservative and let the playmakers do their thing. Add in Revis and Goldson to the secondary, their weak 2012 area. They "should" destroy the Jets. Setting myself up for some smack talk, but I don't care.

Texans at -3.5. Chargers are a name brand. Rivers is a statue and is in serious trouble against JJ and the boys. I don't care who is totin the rock, they'll be tough. Tate is a great 2nd back. Andre and now DeAndre, who can ball. One of the Hawk losses will be in Houston.

I can see the Texans destroying SD and I can't stand away faves, but -3.5 was too appetizing.

I have a couple of other games but it's not a great weekend. Go lean but pound what you like. Sucks there are only two - 4:15 games.

VCash is monopoly $$. Good Luck. :suds:
