This goes right along with them closing Shea after missing the playoffs on the last day of the season rather than having the ceremony before to fire up the crowd. Much better to wait until you've been eliminated and have half the crowd leave before hand and the half that stayed pissed.
That and trading Seaver for a deli guy and a couple of bell hops

Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi.

Brody's off season decisions continue to impress. I ca't wait for his spin on this one. I really wanted (fill in the name) all along but
hey, doug flynn hit .191 after that tade!

A friend of mine was 9 when the trade happened. His 2 favorite players were Seaver and Kingman. They traded them both the same night. His mother hid the news paper. He was so pissed his father was able to take him to the dark side and change him to a Yankee fan. To this day when I kid him about being a Met fan there will always be someone near by that didn't hear the story and ask "Why'd you switch?". He always does the same thing. He looks the person in the eye and says "June 15th.....1977......I came down for breakfast.....".

In 75 and 76 he hit in the 230's but hit 36 and 37 HR's which in Shea stadium was pretty good and my buddy was just a kid and loved the long ball. He played for 4 teams in 1977.

i don't care if everyone associated with that team never participated in MLB again. What they did, imo, was about the worst thing you can do. even worse than an individual player injecting steroids to hit more HR's. This was almost an entire team participating.

pete says, "hi and welcome to the MLB wasteland of tossed out trash"…

card signing is a lucrative business option from here on out.

He used to set up a table to sign (and charge for) autographs down the street from the HOF in Cooperstown over induction weekend every year. Kind of sad. Not sure if he's still doing it.

i have always been a huge fan of pete rose AS A PLAYER.

he was awesome back then, not so much as a manager tho.

Did you ever get a Rose autograph? I'm a willing buyer of such memorabilia.

He was till doing it up until a couple of years ago. Might still be. He would also do signings in Casinos and then go right to the tables the moment he was done. The guy would bet on a Harlem Globetrotters game if there was a line.

It's pretty obvious Beltran didn't come clean on this when Brodie and the "Coupons" interviewed him...because if he did and they still hired him that's fucking "Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus" type of stupidity...but then again we are talking about the 2 time World Champion Mets......chalk it up to another chapter in the New York Mess history...why did the Yankees and N.Y. Giants (football) have to suck so bad between 68 and 75 (Giants even longer)...from when I was 7 until I was 14 ...Mets..Jets ..Knicks ..Rangers..owned New York..I got fucking suckered in....if only I was born a couple years earlier or later....ah yes rings ...lots of rings...

does anyone else think Pete rose looks like Johnny Damon??? Both are Kiner's favourite players, ironically...
Kingman was a poor imitation of Kiner as a player....Ralph was a hell of a HR hitter before a bad back fucked him over.
