As great a player as Cutch is, he just doesn't have enough arm to be considered a 5-tool player.

i was thinking the exact same thing when i read it.
i think marte might be our real CF, but not sure how cutch would take that. probably need to see marte really outshine in the OF before cutch agrees to the shift.

Can't see that happening for a few years at the very least. Marte isn't that good of a defender.

supposedly marte is a good defender with more speed and much more arm. cutch seems to take odd lines to balls.

On what do you base that assertion, element?

Most of what I've read (including advanced metrics) indicate that McCutchen is about average on defense (despite his Gold Glove).

Most of what I've read indicates that Marte is an above average defender with a superior arm.

Pirates strike first. Up 1-0 in the bottom of the 2nd. Tuning in as soon as I get comfortable.

Watching him play, maybe his speed would make up for it, but he doesn't look especially quick to react to balls hit to him. Of course, you would think McCutchen's speed would make up for the relatively poor routes he takes.

Well done Bucs! Nice to have a lead in the game that was postponed yesterday as well. At least I don't think we played it out...

we have the braves in for 4 games and i would want to have him rested because the brave BP is awesome. we will need our studs at the end of games.
