Well, well. Missed the game, looks like WSH was full value for the win. Just 1 game, but I may soon be eating crow.

Backstrom hit Boyle in the right-rear quadrant of his right shoulder. This was not a hit in the numbers, didn't send him dangerously into the boards, and wasn't made with violent force. Yes Boyle went down, but it could have been to try to block off the puck until time ran out or to sell the call. He certainly seemed to turn awkwardly to present his back to Backstrom... which may work in the regular season, but certainly not in the playoffs.

The Caps played well. I think the NHL media machine, cruddy announcers, and random sportswriters all have a hard-on for NY. This article omits the crossbar OV hit, the Ranger turnover directly to Ward where he hit the post, and the numerous great saves Lundquist was forced to make to keep the game 1-0. It was a very close game, and will probably be a very close series, but I like the way the Caps played and thought the Rangers could have played much better
