Terrible news for his health as well as the site. I use that site probably 5-10 times a week. Ugh.

If the NHL had any sense to them, they'd buy the backend of capgeek and put it on their site as a reference.

Such a good site, props to that guy.

But very sad news.

First off what a shame that is gone and hope he gets better.

I am amazed he isn't trying to sell it but what is funny it means reporters will have to do their homework again.

He put contact info out there, so he's likely to try and sell it.

Looks like he already took that down and added "it is requested that you respect Matthew's privacy and wish for no media or purchase inquiries." which I fully understand if he truly isn't in health to deal with those inquiries.

There had to be more than one guy working on that site, right? I understand his wishes, but they had to be making decent money with the amount of traffic it had.

Yeah you would think to both and especially not only for hits on the site but for how many times it was referenced by articles.

Did it have ads on it?

It might have but I don't remember there being any.

I have adblock, so I couldn't tell you. If it were an expense, then I get it. I just assumed the guy was making money, and that he had "staff" of sorts.

To my knowledge it had ads on it and if you go to some google images of the site it shows adds in the images.

I forget where but I remember seeing an Oilers video where you could clearly see Tambellini had CapGeek on his tablet. You'd have to imagine some team would go after this site for purchase like how the Maple Leafs hired the guy from ExtraSkater.

CapGeek really was a CBA bible. Easy to understand cap explanations, up to date contracts, and every yearly salary you could possibly imagine.

And looking at CapGeek on WayBackMachine it does appear to have some ads.

I only went and looked the first day and didn't see he took down the contact info since.
