#Canucks goalie Cory Schneider can file for arb on July 5th. Agent Mike Liut has stopped takin calls - which indicates something is up.

I see him getting almost $5M a year (5 year deal - $25M) anyway so any offer sheet around the $5M mark would be matched. anything over would depend on how over. no one is stupid enough to give up 5 1st round draft picks or whatever it is to really make the canucks walk away (well maybe no one) so Im not really worried about the offer sheet.

i believe the Canucks have the goalie situation FULLY in control and is allowing media and fan base to over react as they always do to keep the Canucks interest in high gear in the summer. it helps deflect the enormous failure of the 2011-2012 season and it works WELL.

2 - he would be moved by end of season
3 - dont think it would affect the locker room too much
4 - thats an EXPENSIVE backup

dont know why Crampy would do that though??? give away his hammer and sign early? unless he wants to stay here and doesnt want the team to be hamstrung with a 1 year over the top contract offer sheet

more importantly ... if its a 1 year offer sheet (all things remaining the same ie cba) it takes Schneider to ufa next season

do gms really want to play this game though when they will have their own rfa's out there in the future (and with Chicago at 8 mill cap space)

and if Bowman is interested in Luongo (alledgedly) and trying to force Gillis's hand on that front ... you think Gillis will want to deal with Bowman on a trade for Luongo after he causes the canucks to pay more for Crampy???

It also makes Schneider more likely to be traded. I don't see it happening, but trading for his rights is more common than an offer sheet.
