had a couple of Kronenbourg 1664 before heading out, then bummed a ride home from Matty afterwards, and we stopped at some place with a wide array on tap.
had some tasting racks of I don't remember (small glasses of 4 diff't beers). One of them was called a Seed Spitter, because it had essence of watermelon or some shit like that. it was better than expected, actually.

This meant you had angry fans yelling at Burke, you had angry Burke yelling at fans, and you had Dave Nonis crying and huddled over in a corner wondering why everyone was fighting…it was a glorious time. (One year they brought all the Canucks on the roster out to one of these events to partake in the festivities. It was very awkward. I have a picture of me with Trevor Letwoski, which helps immortalize this event for me.)


Burke was a lawyer, and Gillis is a lawyer, which means we often end up with boring lawyer answers to most questions. “I can’t weigh in on that…..I can’t talk about that…..I can’t say one way or the other…..I found the body with the knife already in it….” that sort of thing.


They tell me Laurence Gilman wasn’t there, but that dude is a ninja, so it wouldn’t shock me if he was hidden in plain sight the entire time.



Gillis then high fived Stan Smyl, and they ripped off their shirts and started flexing. (That last part probably didn’t happen. Probably.)



Gillis stated he feels the league will take active steps to ensure that the league is about “skill” and “speed”. One of those words will allow Mason Raymond to continue getting paid.



Since I didn’t think Gillis would answer my question of “What number is Shea Weber going to wear if Salo comes back next year?” I sat back and listened to the audience take their shot at being reporters.


Someone asked about Sami Salo and Gillis said Salo becomes a UFA on July 1st, but that they hope to bring Salo back. Sami Salo heard this news and applauded, promptly snapping his ankle.


Somebody won a lunch with Alex Burrows at the end of the event. The guy who won didn’t look very stoked. I assume somebody made a joke to him about Burrows liking “finger foods”.

funniest part of the night going to Bierkraft after and talking to the hostess.

Matt: "Can we sit in the bar"
Hostess: "Sorry its full, the restaurant is open"
Matt: "Can we leave our name for the bar"

Hostess: "oh you dont want the bar"

Matt: "you would rather us wait in the rain and not drink than sit in the restaurant and drink to wait for the table"

Matt: "yes we just want beer"
Hostess: "ok"
we walk in
2 table in the bar are wide open
Hostess: "I was going to sit you here"

we continue walking and see the the comfy chairs by the fire are open in the bar
