Team Canada still holding out hope that the Flames release Monahan for the WJHC tourney - I say if he's healthy, the Flames should let Sean go to Malmo.

Surprised Poirier didn't make it over guys like Petan and Shinkaruk.
Really? nothing against Poirier but of the forwards that would be potential bubble guys, Petan and Shinkaruk would be really low on my list
I was kind of hoping to see Subban (selfish reasons)

Just a general question (but I don't think it's worthy of a poll). Obviously, I think people are interested in watching their NHL teams prospects and how they perform at the tourney, but that shouldn't supplant cheering for your country, should it? As an example, Flames goalie prospect Jon Gillies could win the States goalie starting role, but when they play Canada, I'm cheering for Canada (but I also hope Gillies has a strong game between the pipes). If Calgarypuck is any indication, some Flames fans (who I think are Canadian) will be cheering for Gillies and Team USA (which I find strange).

I hated Kesler in the WJHC, and hated him in the Olympics.

If it's in a game not against Canada, I hope they do well but that's a very far second place.
I did enjoy watching Demitra dominate the lat Olympics, because of the absolute joy he showed during the games, and hopefully he would bring that confidence back to the team.

also, I"M GOING TO MALMO!!!!!!! :yahoo:

The more I think about the more I would have Nurse on the team, even as an extra defenseman.

He's still eligible next year (as are 11 guys on this roster). Having that experience would make him a beast next year, IMO. I sometimes feel like Team Canada's planning is geared too heavily towards the short term.

I suspect that they simply don't pick the team with much of an expectation that guys will be back next year after seeing so many guys not get released for the tournament over the years. And if Nurse is still around and is made available next year I doubt he'll have too much trouble adapting anyway given his age and general experience level at that point.

Seems really strange to me that they only invited 2 goalies, especially considering 1 of those 2 was Zach Fucale. He's good but I'm not sure he's 1 of the top 2 Canadian goalies under 20. In fact, I know of better goalies in the Q alone that were eligible. That being said, he's proven that he's good enough to get the job done with a stacked team in front of him, so if that's what the rest of the team is then they might be alright.

i dont know of any on here, but in real life i definitely know some pens fans that cheered for canada in the last olympics because crosby was on the team.. bad americans. bad people... fine to root for your players, but never above your country

Shinkaruk has 16 points in 18 games and a -2 on a pretty good Tigers team. He's undersized as well; I don't see him in a shutdown role. He hasn't really excelled this year, IMO.

Petan has been a scoring machine and though small may have been a poor example on my part. Leier is more of a bubble guy.

Poirier has been outstanding for the Olympiques.

I agree with all of the above, if anything, Shinky was playing much better last year at this time and get snubbed from the Canadian roster. He's really been struggling this season (to be fair, he's had a nagging hip issue which is likely impacting his performance).

I don't know what more Poirier could have done this year to make the team.

Flames have decided not to release Monahan for the WJHC tourney - Darn it, I would have liked to have watched him in Malmo (as I think it would have definitely enhanced Canada's chances for gold).

thats a little dissapointing chances are flames are in no way going to make the playoffs and that tourney would be solid for his career building. loss for canada

they wouldn't let Team USA have Patrick Sieloff either.

Yes, he's injured currently though and I'm not sure if he'll be healthy for the tourney in any event.

Good god I just realized that Adam Erne is also a Tampa Bay prospect and this is what he had to say following the game:

But, Erne didn’t see it that way.

“He wasn’t far from the boards and I pushed him pretty hard,” said Erne, who also received a game misconduct for the hit. “I thought it was a dive and I thought everybody else did, too. I wouldn’t have even gotten a penalty if he didn’t dive into the boards.”

He also said that Drouin could have absorbed the hit standing up, and avoided injury.

If he dives and goes head first he’s going to hurt himself,” added Erne, who also knocked Murphy out of the game with a shoulder on shoulder check before stealing the puck and scoring the game’s first goal.

I'm sure Steve Yzerman is really impressed. :L I actually don't think the hit was THAT bad. Worth 5 and a game and maybe a couple games suspension, maybe not. But the comments afterwards are pretty scary, especially when he just concussed the top prospect of the same organization that drafted him.
