I think we have to remember that during the five year gold medal streak, a lot of good fortune befall for Canada (winning in shootouts, scoring tying goals in the dying seconds with the goalie pulled etc.). The concerning thing for me is that in two straight years, the team wasn't prepared to play in a semi-final game. That is the responsibility of the coaching staff and for whatever reason, those kids today were tighter than a snare drum.

I also didn't like splitting up MacKinnon and Drouin (why split up linemates?) and Brett Ritchie didn't look healthy to me all tourney. Some questionable calls regarding personnel decisions need to be answered by Team Canada officials.

This might seem strange coming from an Islanders fan, but I think Dale Hunter should be the coach next year.

OK just watched game. one team wanted it, the other was waiting for it to be handed to them.
- 2nd goal... Huberdeau lamely waves his stick as an attempted check on a guy charging through the neutral zone. WEAK Huberdeau was a disinterested -4.
- 3rd goal... was that the 3rd or 4th odd man rush in the past two minutes?
- 4 perfect shots and Subban didn't even see 2 of them.
- RNH takes a penalty at the end of a 3+ minute shift. should never happen.
- Strome 30% on faceoffs, Jenner 35%. indicative of intensity
- Canadians looked like the Russians.
- the powerplay in the 3rd was the only real desperation
- Ryan Murphy... beaten on toedrag for goal, leaves Gudreau alone for breakaway goal. awful game for him

Canadian coach Spott: 'It starts with desperation. We simply did not have the same desperation as the Americans had today. They simply outworked our hockey club. There’s no excuse for that.'

in summary, congrats US. you earned this one today.

nice screen :L

A_tyztmCMAANMEw.jpg

It wasn't the screens that bugged me, it was the head rolling, shrugging and shoulder drooping that really concerned me. He got very down very fast.

Being the kind of player to cave, who gets angry at teammates and being black will serve him well in Boston.

I hope for his sake he gets traded before starting his NHL career. He has really solid instincts and good movement. But Boston will eat him alive.

Great game by the US. Always a feather in the cap to beat big brother in hockey. Hopefully they can seal the deal against Sweden in the final. I really don't remember Canada ever struggling to score like they did this year. 4.4 gpg (and only 1.5 against the US) seems awfully low for them.

I didn't see him give up. I saw a shoulder shrug to say "I didn't see that one at all". First two goals were pretty identical. perfect shot, and completely screened by his own defense.
the one concern I have about him was that he didn't seem to take things very seriously at the start of the tournament, camp included. It took him a while to get into the groove, and it shouldn't have.

I guess I saw it different. The second one especially, he shrugged and seemed like he pointed at his D-man like "hey, you were in the way".

Not like it would have made a lick of difference either way. Gibson was on, and the US shooters were picking really small spots. Vesey's shot was just ridiculous.

Practice for playing in Boston.

Canada had plenty of chances to score. Heck, Strome could have had a hat trick. Huberdeau had a couple of golden opportunities. The puck just went high, wide or was saved by Gibson. Tough night for Canada's forwards that's for sure.
