I want this guy gone pronto. Cmon Bears, we all know you are thirsty AF and will trade a 1 plus more for a QB. Just do it today so I can stop searching for Wentz news on Twitter and forget about this dude once and for all.

The Eagles came out and said they want a Stafford type deal...That's the equivalent of a train hitting a mountain. Even for Ryan Pace.

And the Lions reportedly started by asking for Aaron Donald in return for Stafford. It doesn't hurt to shoot your shot. I doubt anyone is paying two 1s for Wentz. But one first rounder? Possible IMO. Let's see what happens.

Yeah...I'm pretty sure you'll get a 1 (edit: hopefully not from the Bears) and this or that...but two 1's isn't going to happen...and that's why this hasn't happened yet.

I still can't believe the reports that teams are thinking about trading a 1st for him after the way he looked last year combined with his contract. It will be interesting to see if that is just media bluster.....or there really are GM's that are THAT bad at their jobs.

My guess is that when this trade does go down that some Eagle fans are going to be pretty disappointed with the return.

The contract is actually a positive for the acquiring team. Philly already paid the bonuses. The team that trades for Wentz will pay him a salary in the middle of the pack for QB starters. So if you are, say, the Colts abs think you can fix Wentz the contract is a good thing.

His signing bonus is miniscule.

The team trading for him has to pay him $31M this year. And they can't cut him after one season because most of his salary in 2022 becomes guaranteed at the start of this offseason.

So basically they are guaranteeing to pay Wentz $31M this year and $28M next year.

That is more than he would earn in his first 2 years of a contract if he were a FA. That is why his contract is a negative....not a positive.

But hey.....it only takes one stupid GM to offer a 1st. But IMO it isn't going to happen. If a team had offered a 1st rounder, Wentz would already be traded. IMO the last week is nothing more than the Eagles leaking bullshit to try and drive up price. I think the Eagles will be lucky to get 2nd round total value for Wentz in the end.

He just looked too broken last year to go down a 2 year road with him, giving him that much money AND throwing in draft picks to boot. But again....it only takes 1.

Edit: My numbers above are off. The option bonus is paid off. The total for Wentz for the trading team is $25M this year and $22M next year. Basically all guaranteed lost money. Not as bad as above....but more than I would want to pay for him personally.

I don't think that is accurate. My understanding is that the team acquiring him while have him under contract for $25 mil a year under their cap for this year and $22 million after that. The rest of the money is paid by the Eagles who will have to still pay the signing bonus and other guarantees.

Wentz is due $25.4M for 2021 and $22M for 2022. $15M of the 2022 money will become guaranteed on Week 1 of the 2021 season so realistically any team acquiring him is looking at $47.4M over 2 years. The money shown as an option bonus by Spotrac is a $30M signing bonus paid by the Eagles last year. The Eagles are accounted for that at $6M per year under the cap. That 'option' cap cost will stay with the Eagles regardless of what happens with Wentz.

Personally I don't think Wentz would currently be worth $47M over 2 years as a FA. If I was a team acquiring Wentz contract I would want compensation from the Eagles for doing so. I still believe Goff at $53M for 2 years is a contract with a higher upside and a higher floor than Wentz currently provides. Even if the Eagles were to pay the 1st $10M of Wentz deal, (due March 19 2021), I would still be leery of acquiring Wentz.

that’s a great article. I’ll add that both of Wentz biggest supporters on the field (ertz and Cox) are probably gone next year so he won’t have that support.
Not sure if it's valid but I saw something recently that Wentz and Ertz could be a package deal in a Wentz trade?
