Not sure if it's valid but I saw something recently that Wentz and Ertz could be a package deal in a Wentz trade?

that may be true. Ertz is a big cap hit

Niners second round pick and Jimmy G for Wentz, Ertz, and Arcega-Whiteside. John Lynch loves Stanford players and would do this deal in a heart beat.

Wentz is due $25.4M for 2021 and $22M for 2022. $15M of the 2022 money will become guaranteed on Week 1 of the 2021 season so realistically any team acquiring him is looking at $47.4M over 2 years. The money shown as an option bonus by Spotrac is a $30M signing bonus paid by the Eagles last year. The Eagles are accounted for that at $6M per year under the cap. That 'option' cap cost will stay with the Eagles regardless of what happens with Wentz.

Personally I don't think Wentz would currently be worth $47M over 2 years as a FA. If I was a team acquiring Wentz contract I would want compensation from the Eagles for doing so. I still believe Goff at $53M for 2 years is a contract with a higher upside and a higher floor than Wentz currently provides. Even if the Eagles were to pay the 1st $10M of Wentz deal, (due March 19 2021), I would still be leery of acquiring Wentz.
So 23.5 per year and you can cut him after the second year? If he starts for a team that's actually pretty cheap, puts him in Bridgewater/ Alex Smith pay area. Brissett made 21 million 2020.

Doubtful Ertz gets traded.

$8.25M for a 31 year old TE coming off a season where he put up 335 yards and has never been that good a blocker? The last 2 years Ertz hasn't been good. He just got a lot of targets in 2019 (....and not good production for the number of targets he saw).

If you are sending away picks for a TE, you are talking to Tampa about OJ Howard beforehand or making an offer for Tonyan depending how the Packers tag him.

And the free agent market is jam packed at the position with Henry, Cook, Jonnu, Everett. Kyle Rudolph and Brate likely will be cap casualties too.

With everything out there, he is another Eagles player that I can't imagine having a positive value in a trade.

I wonder what trade value Ertz might have, because as Ducky notes he has been on a downswing lately. My guess is he will be cut if not traded also, which may factor into other teams' willingness to deal for him.

First, stop comparing Wentz to Stafford. Apples and Oranges.

Two, the rams threw in an extra first round pick for the Lions to pick up Goff's contract.

Three, Other teams know how badly the Eagles want to 'dump' him.

The eagles will be forced to take the best offer and not be able to demand anything more from any trade partner. If they try anything , people will just walk away. Wentz is not Watson, Mahomes, or Brady.............................he like #34 on the top 32 list.

Lol. You and Shark might be the worst 2 cap and salary analysts on this forum.

Brissett was NOT paid $21M in 2020. Brissett was paid $30M for the last 2 years. It was a desperation deal caused by Luck's retirement on the eve of the 2019 season. No-one thinks the Colts did well out of that deal. If Luck had retired 7 months earlier the Colts would almost certainly have done something else. Smith's trade to and new contract with Washington was laughed at by everyone other than Washington fans, (who mostly hated it).

Bridgewater signed a 2 year $42M contract. Wentz signed a 3 year $86.8M contract. Both Bridgewater and Wentz were signed to deals that were reasonable at the time. I don't blame the teams or players. However, circumstances have changed and what a team could reasonably expect from Wentz going forward has dropped substantially. Bridgewater received $24M last year and is due the remaining $18M this year. Wentz received $39.4M last year and is due the remaining $47.4M over the next 2 years. If you're comparing the 2 players as QB options it's $18M/1 vs $47.4M/2.

I fully accept that Wenz has a higher ceiling but the risk of him losing the starting job again in 2021 and spending 2022 as a back-up is just too great. At this point I would rather take Bridgewater than Wentz as a short-term option and i'd look for a QB through the Draft.

He wasn't? I go by over the cap and here is what they have:

Looks to me they claim Brissett cap hit for 2020 was 21 million. Which is what I said.

He was paid $30M over 2 years. That $30M was actually split $13M & $17M. For cap purposes the team CHOSE to account for it as $9M and $21M. That doesn't mean he was paid $9M and $21M. He isn't and wasn't a $21M QB. He was a $30M/2 QB, or a $15M per year QB, (if you want to split it evenly as you did with Wentz).

In 2019 Russell Wilson signed a $107M/3 year contract. The actual splits are $70M*, $18M, & $19M. Describing Wilson as either a $70M QB or a $19M QB would be wrong.
* Technically $35M of the signing bonus wasn't paid until 2020 but for cap purposes it counted as a 2019 signing bonus.

A cap figure is NOT a true reflection of what a player is being paid. Drew Brees is not playing for $1M, (or $12.5M), in 2021. He signed the $1M deal so $11.5M of the remaining $23M of dead money on his contract can be delayed until 2022 for cap purposes.

His cap hit was 21 million for 2020 and they could of cut him and saved 14 million because there was only 7 million left guaranteed. The rest doesn't matter it's just you going blab blab blab blab. OK we done here? I guess it's a mistake to average Wentz cap hit. So 25.4 for 2021 and 22 million for 2022. Still fairly cheap for a starting QB that isn't a rookie.

If you're just going to post crap then at least be consistent. Wentz has cap numbers of $34.67M and $31.27M for the next 2 years. If you're going to use your 'box of rocks' thinking he's a $65.94M QB for 2 years rather than a $47.4M QB. Don't cherry pick your numbers. He's NOT a $65.94M QB but hey, blab, blab, blab right? :rolleyes2:

...and no. The Colts couldn't have cut Brissett before 2020 and saved $14M. :rolleyes2:

It sure seems like Hurts is going to be the guy next season for Philly. I am not sure if he is going to be the answer, but I get that he showed more heart than Wentz and looked considerably better with the same surrounding cast.
