Saw highlights. Yes, he had a strong arm, yes he's mobile. All things we knew. He was playing with 2nd stringers, who dropped a pass or two, but he was also going against 2nd team defense, so I think it's a bit early to proclaim him a success. Let's see him in a regular season game against the Saints, with Gregg Williams blitzing every other play.
He looked great. I didn't say he would be MVP but he looked fantastic. 3 drops, a few throw aways that were just smart plays. It wasn't just his strong arm it was the touch he put on the ball, and the coverages he read. Great game. He would have completed 60%+ if his WRs could catch and you take out the throw aways. Plus a couple were deep balls at different times where he was told to just go deep. And they were perfect throws. Whether you like this kid of not this was a good 1st game for him.
Just like Dalton's, and the Bengals bad start means nothing according to you, Newton's play means nothing. It was against 2nd string defenders in a preseason game.
Lol your hate for this kid is unbelievable. I didn't say it meant anything. I said he looked good. You can't even admit he had a good game. It's insane. The kid looked good in a game. Does it mean anything? Never said it did. But he did have a very good game and he did look really good out there. I can't help that you can't see or take that.
I think he showed a good arm and good mobility, but that it was against lesser competition and doesn't mean anything. He looked fine, but it doesn't mean anything.
Cam is going to be a star..... The only thing that sucks about migrating to the new boards is that we won't be able to revisit all of Vance's pre-draft hate!
Vance -- This is your chance to go on a J-Will type rant. It would go like this....
This kid aint done ish..... He needs to SHOW ME! Guy can't smuckin read a D. If I'm wrong, I'll be back. If you're wrong don't go being a pzzy and hiding.
Cam Newton's peak is a Mike Vick, which is at best a #10 QB in the league. At his peak, he'll be a good to very good (not great) regular season QB - i.e. his team will win many games against crappy defenses. In the playoffs, he may get to the 2nd round, but once he starts seeing real defenses, his game won't amount to much (much like Vick) and he'll become a liability.
That said, in all likelihood, he'll be a bust. Stick around for 2-3 years and then have a tough time trying to land somewhere.
Next season's draft, I won't be surprised if the Panthers are in a predicament trying to decide whether they draft Luck or trade back.
Lol Newton has a very good chance to be ROY. I see him being a top 10 QB in this league. And so what if he is Vick. There are about 25 other teams out there that wish they had him. I know I wish we had him. What basis do you have for saying he won't be a great QB? 0.
I guess "25" other teams care for little other than the playoffs.
The guy has played 1 preseason game his entire NFL career, which is a mere 2 weeks old, and I have to have a basis for why he won't be great? Really?!?
Yeah. If you are going to make an argument of anysort you have to have a basis other wise you are basing your beliefs and argument on nothing at all, which is precisely what you are doing. Nothing out there suggest the best he can ever be is mediocre.
