Sick, you're truly is sick in the head for you to come up with this subject. Had Cam enter the draft this year (knowing what teams and executives know of him now) would you draft him at pick # 3 behind Luck or Griffin?

Sh8t I'd take 10 minutes debating whether or not to go with Luck or Cam...I would eventually settle for Luck. Essentially, what this thread is saying is that "Cam is NOT a franchise QB". This thread is by far the most ridiculous thread created in the month of May 2012. This thread belongs in the special olympics.

As long as Cam keep a level head and does not let himself get above his team and the game he will be great. He is a big tough guy with the desire to win every play. He's like a much more athletic Big Ben.

I don't like the guy and would love to see him fail, but he is super talented and has the ability to be a great QB if that is what he wants to be.

One statistic that will see a drastic reduction is his rushing TD's. Newton's 14 rushing TD's will go the way of the Wildcat in 2012. Cam accounted for 76.2% of the total yards and 74.4% of the total TD's - neither of those things are going to happen in 2012.

What will happen (IMO) is this. Chudzinski will do with Newton what Walsh did with Young which is to make him more of a passing QB relying less on his instinct to run and more comfortable with his reads.

I think Newton will always be a productive to a very productive QB (supporting cast assumed) but whether that production will translate into victories or even a/or championship(s) is much less certain IMO.

My comparison had nothing to do with Manning and Painter...

It had to do with the 2010 Panthers being 32/32 in offense... and the 2011 Panters being 5/7

Cam is the obvious difference.

BINGO!

I wonder what Cam would have done if he had our defense......hmmmmm

I was reading the Joyner thread on the board and it game me an idea on comparing Cam Newton's passing stats between the first 8 games and last 8 games of the 2011 season. I was wondering if a case can be made on how the lack of off season in 2011 contributed to Cam's rookie success and this is what I found:

CMP ATT YDS CMP% AVG TD INT
1st 8 games 174 287 2393 0.61 8.34 11 9
Last 8 games 136 230 1658 0.59 7.21 10 8

The data shows that he threw the ball 57 times more in the first half of the season and had 735 more yards. Also, if you look at the game logs, you will noticed that during the first half of the season, he had 3 games going over 300 ypg (Game 1 - 422 yards, Game 2 -432 yards, and Game 4 - 374 yards) while in the last half, he did not have any 300 yards + games. Based on this data, a case could be made that defenses were starting to adjust to the Panthers passing attack...

That thought has run across my mind as well, but I think a better test will be his growth this year.
