Just took my son to Cabelas for the first time over the weekend. Been to Bass Pro to see the fish a bunch of times, but he really got a kick out of Cabelas. Gotta get him trained up young, he already wants to drive the boats and ATV's. He's picked out the spiderman fishing pole he wants to fish with at my parents pond. Good stuff :suds:

Over-priced IMO.

We are getting one here too, and I couldn't care less. We already have 3 sufficient sporting goods stores here, and this isn't a very big town.

We recently got one in Columbus and it really kinda blows. Its not at all like the ones in Nebraska, Kansas or Michigan. Very small and seems to be catering to weekend hikers/shooter types or older guys who like wearing zip off leg cargo pants. I guess I was just hoping for more of the outfitter store. Still happy to have them.

Anyways congrats on the new store and Richmond is a very cool and upcoming city.

Great. Now you will have a large outdoors outfitter who will have employees that have no idea what you are talking about. Forget about getting expert advice. Just think of the Cabelas associates the same as you do the WalMart associates. They MIGHT know where something is located on a shelf, but don't ask about specifics on anything cuz you'll get a blank stare, a shrug and a weak "I dunno."

We had one open near me in East Hartford, CT. At first it was pretty cool but in a few years it's gone downhill. Customer service was pretty decent, now it's sparsely staffed...and as beardown says, way overpriced.

The aquariums and mounts are cool though and just looking at the high end firearms is a hoot. You can get a pretty nice side by side for $64,000.00!

The bass pro in richmond has stayed busy since it opened a few years ago. The staff there is semi knowledgeable. The fishing staff knows a lot and the archery guys are helpful as well. I have never talked with the gun folks there though.

The Michigan one is huge. I go probably once a year in spring to get new fishing stuff. The fishing section at that particular store is about the size of a normal sporting goods store all on it's own.
