Barfknecht: Rex not in Heisman mix? Hogwash - Omaha.com

Someone needs to stand up and say somethin!!

We campaigned for Crouch from the beginning of the season he won it. I remember that well.

Coach Bo needs to get on ESPN and say something. His teammates need to say something to national media.

If he doesn't get the pre-season exposure now he'll probably never have a chance. Even if we win 11 games.

I know you can't read this but he Rex isn't going to get any attention go the Heisman because he isn't going to come close to winning it. I love Rex but it is called reality.

Heisman is a joke anyway. But Rex should get it.

All I will say is that the guy deserves to at least be in the discussion. He's earned that. The guy is a beast. He is the most complete running back/player in the country IMO.

He was #114 in the country in YPC last year. To think that he deserves mention as top 15 candidate is ludicrous. He's a great leader for you guys and is a solid player, but he's about as likely to win the Heisman as I am.

Tell me. Where in the requirements of the heisman trophy does it say "he must have 'X' YPC"?

"Naysayers will say Burkhead averaged "only" 4.8 yards a carry last season, not near as shiny as the 6.3 by Wisconsin's Ball or the 10.8 by Oregon's De'Anthony Thomas.
Considering that everyone in the Big Ten knew Burkhead was going to get the ball on an important down, 4.8 is a strong number."

And WHERE in the Heisman requirements does it say "He must have X YPC the year before"?

What's to say his YPC doesn't increase if the passing game is improved and his load is lightened a bit by our two Sophomore RB's?

I read that and laughed. Ball was pretty much fed the ball for the entire second half of every blowout. Every team (you guys included) knew where the ball was going. Montee Ball was under 5 YPC exactly one game on the season.

As for the YPG requirement, I can't believe you seriously think that a guy who was outside the top 100 in YPC has a serious shot at the award. It's ridiculous and arbitrary, and if Burkhead does win, it would take an almost unprecedented improvement.

All I'm saying is he deserves to be in the discussion. Obviously the only way for him to have a chance is if we win 11+ games, and we all know if that happens it will be Taylor who will be in the heisman talks, not Rex.

You're seriously laughing at Rexy? Chuck will have a bone to pick with you.

All I'm sayin is sure, Montee ball has that fancy shmancy YPC, but Rex can walk up under center and run the option, he can catch anything, he returns punts, he runs wildcat, he makes big-time throws, and he has serious shake-n-bake.

The only reason his YPC isn't huge is because he's a between the tackles guy and not an outside burner.

He avg'd 5.5 his sophomore year for 951 and 7 TD's and my guess is he at least matches and probably tops that 5.5 avg this year.

1534 yds last year. He's the real deal man. I'm telling you he will have about the same numbers, we just need to win more games for him to be recognized.

Look at who you are talking to Smart. Brasky knows more than anyone about football. Just ask him, he will tell you. ;)

The Heisman trophy is a joke award now. It is an award generally given to the best player on one of the 2 or 3 best teams in the country. If you are not on one of those teams the you have to be a statistical freak!!!! Nebraska will not be that this year. There are players like Matt Barkley, Monte Ball, Tyran Mathieu, Marcus Lattimore (who in my opinion is the best RB in the country), Aaron Murray, Sammi Watkins, Tajh Boyd, Collin Klein, Landry Jones, Geno Smith, Knile Davis, De'Anthony Thomas, and Denard Robinson just to name a few. Rex is a great player and I love him for our team but he is just not a Heisman contender.

Apparently someone didn't watch the Texas game 2 years ago.
