Whenever you get the shot to hire a coordinator away from the Buffalo Bills, I think you have to do it. What a solid move by the Browns.
Like I always say...at least I'm not a Browns fan.
I don't understand why they didn't at least interview Jim Tressel. The fans would have loved it, Tressel was all for it, and the worst case scenario would be that he would be a(nother) shitty Browns coach that would be fired in a year or two.
notice how Josh McDaniels talked to those idiots then backed away slowly and said "no thanks."
Pettine is a relative unknown because he has been toiling away in relative obscurity in a smaller market of Buffalo but Cleveland has a very good pick at head coach and I like the choice. Perhaps we will see a fresh new approach from all of the established coaching fraternity. Perhaps. Nonetheless, a good pick.

Call me crazy, but I think the Browns are in really good shape. If they hit on a QB in the draft they'll contend for the division

They have a lot of good players. But I think it's hard to ask a team to learn a new system every year or two. With their talent, a little continuity would go a long way. I didn't think much of Chud when they hired him, but I really thought he would have that team contending in 2014 with the coordinators he had in place and the talent on both sides of the ball. Now they are starting over -- Again.
