Oh, no, you are correct. He loved the trade and was thrilled to replace Baker with Watson.Might not be recalling it correctly, but I seem to remember Garrett championing the trade. Or maybe it was just him defending it after the fact.

And, sure, I and many fans were as well.
Ummm... welcome to Kansas City...?
That contract really is so overblown. I mean, they made the deal thinking he'd at least be good and then would be thrilled to pay the deal (and likely extend him).I remember grading that whole scenario. The trade I was mostly okay with (I mean it wasn't good lol, but I could understand it partly)... but the CONTRACT was where I lost it. WTF were the Browns thinking with that? One of the most baffling contracts in NFL history.
Did he have anything to do with forcing Baker out? Not sure why but I keep thinking I remember there is more to Garrett wanting Watson.Oh, no, you are correct. He loved the trade and was thrilled to replace Baker with Watson.

I don't think anyone forced Baker out....he asked out when he heard were going after Watson.Did he have anything to do with forcing Baker out? Not sure why but I keep thinking I remember there is more to Garrett wanting Watson.

That's cool, but Garrett wanting them to make a change is not forcing him out. The guy asked out before Watson was even acquired. Hell, if he was willing to stay I would not have been shocked to see the Browns keep him as the backup.

my guess is they see where they are after FA and the daft and of course wait until the June 1st date. Hell, Myles may even like the moves they made and choose to stay. He did say he thinks the D is good enough to just run it back with no changes (the guy is all over the place).Funny enough, he kind of painted himself in a corner.
A pre June 1st trade would result in a $36M cap hit (due to void years). That would assuredly happen for draft picks... the Browns really can't afford that without MAJOR restructures thanks to Watson's now $75M cap hit (roughly). Cutting or trading (lol) Watson pre/post is simply out of the question.
That's all well and dandy Garrett demanded a trade, but the Browns might just be fuckin' stuck with him. 2 players if they trade him ($36M and then $75M for Watson) both taking up $110M cap who aren't even on the field.., good riddance. Suck for... well Manning. Doesn't have the same ring as suck for Luck.
Now a post 6/1 trade could work (acquire 2026 capital - smart) but that will make cutting Watson in 2026 a complete fuckin' disaster in terms of dead cap. It might be the best thing though. Blow the whole fuckin' thing up now. DO NOT, draft your 'QB of the future' in 2025 (Sanders/Ward - who are 2nd/3rd round prospects in basically every draft, regardless) now... take the BPA available - which will prob. be Hunter. Or trade out and build draft capital for your impending implosion.

as to the draft? Browns don't care about the rumors of the QBs or what fans and so-called experts who don't run drafts think. IF they love a QB at 2 they should and will take him. If not they wont.
Oh yeah totally agreed with you about the contract issues to move him and the 6/1 date. Shefty was on here in morning and pointed out a couple things that were interesting. One is the Browns have known about this for a while. Second, at least how it sounded, was he seemed to hint they wont move him...or depends on how far Garrett will take it. Is he willing to sit out camp and even games to see if Browns blink? That's a good take dt... I agree. My point of that post was I don't think they'll move Garrett before the draft. It just makes ZERO sense. And yah, if you like Ward or Sanders you're guaranteed one or the other.. and Garrett's trade cap impact is more hurtful to the Browns. Now if Garrett is literally just not gonna play, that's a different matter all together, but again - he's nearing 30. His window is closing in 5 or so years... he'll cooperate. He's looking to lock in the biggest contract possible for the next 4-5 years.
Ironically the guy making the trade request badly wanted to move on from baker and acquire watson. The Watson trade may go down as the worst trade in NFL history - the Browns gave up several draft picks and got worse as a result and now are going to lose their best player, they were stupid to give up on Baker after his subpar 2021 and give up everything to get Deshaun, now Baker is doing great in Tampa and the Browns have been set back and have wasted a few years on Deshaun. What a clown organization
I’m really glad my Falcons, who had an interest in Deshaun, didn’t trade for him. Deshaun may have always been a bit overrated but he looks completely washed up now, and trading away so much for him was just a huge blunder.Ironically the guy making the trade request badly wanted to move on from baker and acquire watson.
Wont even kill them for a deal more than a dozen teams would have made. Glad to have an owner who was willing to do it...but, sure, hindsight wish he hadn't.
