Just get rid of GMs altogether or come up with another name for them, like an accountant or something. What does a sports management degree amount to nowadays?

It works for Seattle.
and the Pats and the 49ers etc. Not fool proof but IMO the better way to go. How many coaches felt they were hamstrung by their GM ? Lots of them. Reason some big name coaches want both titles. It really makes more sense for the HC to be able to tell the GM what the positions of needs are, what kind of player is needed in his system.

Usually works "well" when a GM and HC actually like each other

i heard they are trying to model themselves after the Chiefs, Patriots, Seahawks, and others who are consistently successful and are more coach-centered organizations where the coach is going to have a LOT of say in personnel decisions.

Yeah, @Manster7588 it sounds more off the grid than it really is....more and more teams are viewing the HC and the GM more as equal positions with different tasks.

Since 2013, Haslam's 1st full season as owner, the Browns are 28-83-1. Fucking pathetic. And as long as that asshole in a suit is involved with the football decisions my team will remain the joke of the league.

Oh yeah here's some more dysfunctional dumbfuckery. That idiot Mayfield says he knows what he needs to work on in the off season & doesn't need to work with a QB coach.

Here is the difference in Seattle.
Carroll was hired with basically full control, just like BP was in Dallas. (basically the HC & GM)
The GM is dealing with the paperwork & cap & yada yada yada.

The Browns are claiming neither have full control & will go the the pres./Owner. Who from my understanding isnt really a football guy.

Seattle works because one guy is basically in control.

I would go find Mayfield some hard ass QB coach, if I were the new HC.

Mayfield's attitude is bigger than Lake Erie. Which is bizarre for a loudmouth QB that took a step back his 2nd year.
He is a kid with superstar fame.
In a way it isnt his fault. The team hasnt made him accountable. His last coach was just an enabler.

Wasn't his fault? He was a clown in college. And he's a clown in the NFL. Remember when he grabbed his crotch looking at the Kansas sideline? His game isn't as good as his massive ego.

But his last coach had no business being a head coach to begin with. All I can do is hope the next coaching hire is someone that's had success.

Like I've said before I don't think the vets on the team had any respect for Freddie. And that was obvious by the total lack of disipline & them finishing 1 or 2 in penalities this year.

yep, probably the only thing that is going to save him at this point is for someone to tear him down and rebuild him. His attitude is going to stunt his growth potential for sure.

I think Jason Garrett will be a good fit in Cleveland.

I sent my application to the Browns earlier this week. I have zero coaching experience, have never played football outside of with friends in the yard, have never run an organization myself, and hate Ohio.... so I give myself 50/50 to be hired by the Browns.

Not a Seattle fan, so not sure. Seems SF has same structure Browns will have.

You get if the guys are smart and make good decisions any structure can work, though, right?

Did coach to GM to owner work here?

Well it's about time they focus on getting a better coach. There are plenty of guys that can do a nice job in a GM role but while drafting is important now for depth it seems like they have their core. Coaching and development is the main issue now...that's why they actually need to get a real head coach. I hope they make a good hire, someone that will have the players' respect and that can develop this young core.
Not gonna happen with haslam. He can't tie his own shoes by himself
