Why does the rink have to be offset like that? I understand it was designed for basketball, but the basketball court isn't offset too, is it?

Basketball courts are smaller, there's courtside seating and I'm guessing the lower level of seats is removable.

basketball court is smaller ... fits in the centre ... only sections 29, 31, 1 and 3 have retractable seating ... other side is fixed column seating

14,500 is more than the Islanders have been averaging the past few years. They'll make it work. It's a new arena. Everything is state of the art. Wang realized he wasn't going to get a new arena. This is the next best thing. I realize it's not ideal. Maybe in the next 27 years there will be some renovations. Time will tell.

true its not ideal but it is the best option ... I couldnt see Prokhorov expanding the arena for a tenant

/but maybe if he becomes part owner ??? ....

I doubt it. Prokhorov hasn't shown any interest in owning a hockey team. Of course now that the Islanders are in his building it might change things. From a business stand point owning both teams in your arena makes a lot of sense.

Honestly up to this point I'm not a big fan of Prokhorov as an owner. The Nets have some nice players, but they missed out on Howard & have given up some early lottery picks.

I expect the Islanders to be players in free agency now. They're going to have over 15.5M coming off the books from UFA's alone. With only 3 RFA's to sign. Wang is going to have to spend that money to reach the cap floor anyway. After this season they will only have 1 year left in the NVMC.

27 years for him to change his mind ... or for the Nets to win an NBA championship ... yah right who am i kidding lol

Brooklyn Nets: NBA Title First, Then We'll Talk Hockey Says Prokhorov | Bleacher Report

He's going to be waiting a long time for an NBA title.

If Wang decides to sell at some point, there's apparently a group in Europe who might be interested. Of course Nelson Peltz is the one name that comes to mind.

It was rumored that this group had contacted Pat LaFontaine about being the front man. It really didn't make much sense. Wang will NEVER sell the team to a group headed up by LaFontaine.
