ALL in favor of that one as a Seahawks fan. Hey props to the 49ers if he pans out or for that late round of a pick to get paid, but I think that's the end of the 9ers after this year. Their draft picks were hardly impressive. Rams/Hawks take over the division from here.

A+ grade all the way (as a Hawks fan)
C- grade as a general fan.

Guy had one GOOD season with a completely stacked team and three teams rebuilding in the division. How that warrants that money is RIDICULOUS.

I know the 49ers fans left on this forum (most have been banned) will let me hear it, but yah. This is baffling. MAYBE it's incentive based. I guess I should consider that first.

Purdy had a good season last year on a very banged up team, he had a very good season the year before. When you have a good QB you need to keep them.

I haven’t seen him play much, but that seems like a lot. The talent on the 49ers is starting to get old. Once all the high paid players they have retire or become a shell of themselves, we will be able to determine if Purdy is worth it.

Seems like a lot. Struck me as a beneficiary of a lot of great supporting talent but I haven't watched most of his games.

It appears to me that $55mil/year is market rate for competent QBs...competent is in the eye of the beholder...so that can be debated to eternity...but that $55mil/year is the rate for competent play, at least that's the ballpark pay rate.

Right or wrong, im not paying any QB $50+ Million unless they are a top 5 needle movers. Giving good QB's that big of a bag will keep you pretty good but basically end your SB chances unless you're on an incredibly stacked team, which means a 2-3 year window as the other talent starts getting paid and leaving

I'd probably say top 10 QB if they're young and top 5 if they aren't.

I'd be shocked if they won a Super Bowl with this contract

That's my thing.
Top eight salaries for next season

Dak $60M
Burrow $55M
Allen $55M
Love $55M
Lawrence $55M
Tua $53.1M
Goff $53.1M
Herbert $52.5M

Two of the eight have any realistic chance to win the Super Bowl(Allen and Goff) and only one of those is the biggest reason(Allen)

Purdy falls into not

Some of those guys have proven themselves for more than ONE season. Purdy hasn't.

If Seattle had signed Darnold to this contract (which EVERYONE seemed about to pay him until the last two fuckin' games) I'd have also blasted Seattle for this. I still don't consider Darnold at $33M per THAT great. $55M for Purdy is fuckin' ridiculous. It's the guaranteed that gets me the most. If it was 5 years $265M and $100M guaranteed, fine.

Burrow and Allen you pay that money for sure. Its a bigger issue to pay Burrow because he holds on to the ball to make big plays which means you need to invest in OL and WR but if the Bengals actually drafted well on defense then they would still be in a really good position moving forward. For me, I think paying Higgins is not something 80% of GMs would've done and they would've gladly flipped him for a high value pick and saved a ton of cap space. I don't hate the Herbert contract because he was a top 5 QB for one season and now that they have Harbaugh he can be a high end game manager.

Wouldn't want Dak, Lawrence, Purdy or Tua. Love's contract is fine, imo, but I feel Love being on a good team for a decade maybe makes 1 Super Bowl. Allen on a good team for a decade would make 5 Super Bowls if Mahomes wasn't making them.

I mean....in comparison to guys passing him, maybe, but what has he done? His new coach isn't bringing in Recievers and TE's, they are bringing in power backs. That's the kind of help these guys need

Do either of you believe that if Purdy hit the FA market another team would've paid him in the same range?

Here is the thing, all those listed above $50mil/year signed in the last year or so, which is the current market. As I stated, whether you believe they're worth it doesn't mean anything, the only person that needs to believe it is one NFL GM, and I don't think either of you are.

It's not a stat thing. You have to watch him play. He's had nothing and has had some crappy OL play too. Put him on a good team and you will see them dominate. Guy makes at least one throw a game every single time I've watched him that makes me think not many guys could have done that. He's just an incredible thrower of the football. The closest to Marino in the league today IMO. There may be better QBs, but no one throws the football better.
