I mean, they got him at clearance sale rates, but the reaction still has to be "meh" when looking at this trade all around.This. Color me unimpressed.

Yeah- but that's just it. It doesn't move the needle much: MehHe's almost certainly an upgrade over Latos / Miguel Gonzalez / whatever the hell they're throwing out there as their #4/5 starters, and he should give them innings. But that's about it.

That HR/FB% is going to be just astronomical.
Que? Ich habe nicht.Stop it....he's back in the AL central...and you're being disingenuous.

It's true he meant a lot to many fans out here in the midwest, and with that, I have a special amount of respect for him as a player to irrational levels. With that being said- it saddens me that he just isn't all that good anymore. Part of me wanted to see him lead the Padres back into the breach, but alas...
Just reading the move from a cold point of view, I would say those innings are just as much about keeping high leverage situations away from their middle relievers as it is about Shields himself giving Ventura more options; as well as making a push in a weak AL Central. T'was the same schtick the Royals had with Guthrie when he was a 1 WAR pitcher that had 200 IP in his pocket.
I don't believe that, he's always had a flirtatious relationship with the dinger at times. You're more than free to disagree, however. He was pretty much languishing and wasting time in SD....whereas now he could very well start thriving again with a better team.
lol....what the hell do you think I've been doing???You're more than free to disagree, however.
he's off the juice?
Dunno, does the juice help you hit an inside pitch?
