I definitely love his confidence! We need that on this defense and we need somebody to step up in the middle as TE's have been our biggest issue for years. If we do have what is considered the best coverage linebacker or at least top-3 in the league then maybe we have began the process of solving that issue. I'm also interested to see how Darian Stewart helps in that department as last year we saw with Rahim Moore playing 30 yards off the ball he did nothing to help with that problem.

Trevathan pre-knees - was better - IMO. Still Brandon Marshall is a guy I root for and is the spirit of recent defenses.

LOL^^^^ I still think Trevathan has a tad more speed when he's 100% which would make him better on paper. Truth be told, while I've kept my eye on Marshall during a lot of preseason snaps, but I haven't watched him much in coverage. Didn't realize he was already making a name for himself as a good cover LB.

Marshall is as humble of a player as you can find. When he talks there is some truth to it.

I don't think an NFL player can ever say they are the "best" at something because I don't think they analyze every player they are referring to as the "better than the others" but Marshall is surely one of the best cover LB's in the NFL.

Remind me again what position BMarsh and Trev will be playing in Wade's defense? Inside LBer, last time I check needs to stop the run first and foremost not cover. I'm worried the 2 ILBer are cover guys and the nose tackle is not a true NT that can occupy the middle when teams start to truly game plan for this defense.

I'm with you. One of the reasons I was upset with the loss of Pot Roast. There's no room for error with the middle of this D, otherwise we will be gashed on the ground. I'm especially worried about Trev being able to hold up in the middle

There were two problems with Knighton and the broncos resigning him. The first being his weight issue. When he hit FA some said he was getting close to 380 and was in terrible shape. Every off season he showed up overweight. Not exactly the example you want shown to the young guys. Throw in because he showed up overweight he struggled to stay on the field. I think he played less than 50% of all snaps last year on defense. Yet he was wanting to be paid big time. Which really that is my 2nd point is he was wanting something in that $7-8 million range. While he was good he wasn't that good. Couldn't pay that much at the expense of other players that can impact the team.

The stat I saw was he only played 32 % of snaps. For some reason some think he was so disruptive with qb pressures consistently and I sure don`t remember seeing that much. He was consistent vs the run more so though. I don`t miss him at all but that doesn't mean I`am balls to the wall faithful in Sly and Co. just yet. The pressure has been pretty damn good in pre-season but lets wait and see what it looks like come reg-season.

Ultimately he signed a 1 year deal for 4mil with a complete non contender. I think something soured with Pot Roast and Elway when JDR had his falling out? Either way, I would've signed Pot Roast for what he got from Washington. He's definitely not an 8 mil dollar player, but he's worth that. Especially considering this might be our last push with Peyton. He might not be a 3 down player anymore, but he can anchor the 3 man front and he's a mountain to run against. That gives a lot of latitude to our smaller MLB'ers to "freelance". I just hope Sly has finally turned the corner. Kilgo certainly looks promising. I really wanted us to grab Perryman in the draft. While he's not huge, he plays hard nosed and attacks the football. He would've complimented Marshall well in the Middle imo.

Oh I agree $4 million I would have signed him. When he left Denver though he wanted $8 million. He turned down something like $6 million a year from the Raiders because he found the deal an insult. He overvalued himself and we have seen Elway knows exactly what a player is worth and offers up to that much.

Karl Mecklenburg was talking about this very thing earlier today in he was saying our biggest weakness on defense or at least perceived weakneses is runs up the middle. He said he would just run it up the middle 100 times and make them stop that. So we shall see how that goes. I have said from the beginning that the issue with this defense will be giving up the occasional big play. If you can break through the first wave of guys then there is a big gap to the next level. So far thankfully our guys have been very good at tackling.

You have to wonder though, how much impact did Pot Roast really have if he was only out there for 32% of the snaps..... Is 32% even worth $4 million? I have my doubts on that.

When you play attacking defenses - you favor penetration of the LOS - instead of the nose tackle manning up for the spaces on both sides of him - a penetrating NT tries to get into the backfield. In theory - the penetrating NT will make some stops behind the LOS and in that case the ILbs need to read it and get there for the stop. The Bronco starters are fast to the hole and great tacklers in Marshall and Trevathan. You tackle a guy behind the LOS - your chances of disrupting a drive get better than 50% on that set of downs. Yeah - its a logical place for an offense to test, but I think the defense design will true of the results nicely.
