I know his assistants have some east coast ties. But he’s just got a 5 star player out of Chicago last year. And from what I hear this year’s crop in Chicago is actually pretty weak for Chicago

Horton-Tucker ( now at Iowa St and a likely first round pick ) wanted to come to Illinois but Ayos "handlers" made it clear he didn't want to play with Horton --Tucker. Evidently a beef from AAU . So illini basically gave in. Really fucking stupid on their part and Ayos. Then HT absolutely lit them up in Maui . Lol. Sweet justice

Definitely some parallels though.

Flagship state universities in relative hotbeds for recruiting who can offer lots of $ to the right coach.

Yet both continue to be worse than little private schools with 5,000 students.

yup and what makes it worse is that Ayo has really come back down to earth after a hot start

coaches that bend over for recruits are clowns, but if you're going to do it then said recruit better turn out great

I don’t think you tell a talent like Ayo to GTFO. Iowa St is a much more experienced team than Illinois at this time. Illinois is very young and needs some help in the front court badly

And it’s not like 1 kid is going to make or break this team right now. Plenty of talent around Illinois even though Chicago class of 2019 looks weak compared to most other years. Matter of fact, Ayo has been the only top 50 recruit from Chicago the last 2 years

Illinois hasn't recruited well since Bill Self. Even Bruce Weber recruited like a MAC coach.

Perhaps but their high school b-ball is pretty bad ass over the years and not many states can match it. Never been much of a football state
