I think it's a great move for both sides. Usually teams add a year or two to deals like this and with Bow's injury I'm glad they didn't do that just now.

The team gets cap space and Bow gets more money now instead of during the season. Everyone wins.

This plus cutting Rogers gives us roughly $9.2 mil in cap space. I smell a contract extension coming.

Sensible move for both sides.

What the hell is that even supposed to mean?

No way do they give him 5 years. I expect him to riding someone's bench by 2016.

5 years? I think they'll be aiming closer to 10.

Why the hell would you want to give that kind of money to Alex Smith Jr?

8 years 136 million. 17 mill per year. Front load the contract so just in case he falls apart u can cut him and it wont hurt as much.

The problems with front loading contracts is players tend to forget that they were paid well the first 4-5 years and demand more money on the back end because they're not making as much money.

You don't front load contracts if you worry about a player not being the guy. You back load it. Case in point the FO front loaded Willis contract because the FO knew Willis was the best MLB in the NFL.

I would much prefer a back loaded contract for Kap for 2 reasons. 1. I like Kap but I worry some what happens when he can't run like he does now. Does he become Steve Young or Mike Vick? 2. With a back loaded contract the FO revisits his deal in 3 years and adjusts or we have won a Super Bowl and allow him to play out his contract.

the way this team is up to the cap now, not counting Kaep's pending contract.....can't see us front loading anybody's contract.

The ball is in Trent's court. Kaep isn't going anywhere. The front office calls the shots with his extension. He plays for his favorite childhood team, is the starter with one of the best receiving corps in the NFL, for a team that has a great chance to win the Super Bowl. You think he's gonna leave all that plus a 16-17mil per extension for an extra 1-2mil per to play for a rebuilding team and having to move to a new place? There's no way. Not to mention he will make more in endorsements as the Niners starting QB then the starting QB for a much lesser team.

On the Bowman situation......just makes me love the guy that much more! He will be rewarded soon enough.
