he will make a FG on Texas first drive only to watch ASU score the winning TD.

Texas will look back on this season and wonder how the special teams and offense undermined the defense so thoroughly.

This was a once in a lifetime defense that had to watch the Head Coach, offense, and Special teams actively try their hardest to lose games.

So Texas wins a lot of football games despite having a bad head coach, a bad QB and a terrible kicker. That's a heck of a handicap

Do you even trust your kicker if you are Texas?

Why did Texas pass it every time? Bad play calling

Probably the same reason that Penn State made the same mistake yesterday -- coaches "outsmarting" themselves. Calling running plays is boring, and doesn't enhance one's career prospects. Who gets hired and paid at the college and professional level? Quarterback "whisperers". Passing game "geniuses". Etcetera.

Penn State had two backs averaging ~9 yards per carry, for which Boise State had no answer. So Penn State stopped running the ball, and called trick flea flickers, and devoted 36 plays to their quarterback running or throwing the ball, and probably would have lost if their defense hadn't come up with 3 interceptions, and 2 missed field goals.

Penn State wins that game by about 42 to 7 if they had just told Allar to hand the ball off, but coaches have to show us all how "smart" they are.

They will host referee classes on plays that are targeting, and this will be the highlight of the class.

Defenseless WR. Catches the ball, he does nothing but try to turn upfield, doesn't drop his head or anything, and the full head of steam defender comes in and makes contact helmet to helmet first, knocks the guy out, and there is no targeting call.

He knocked the guy out.

We've seen them call a lot less.

Yeah but a lot of that is on special teams and their ASU coach completely out coaching Sark. One TD was after a huge fake punt, another after a halfback pass

No question that is targeting

I agree. But it's worth noting that this crew hasn't shown an inclination to make that call today. Arizona State was lucky that Robinson's interception stood up, because his safety laid a hit on that receiver that would usually result in a penalty in modern football. Ten, or fifteen, years ago? Great hit. But today, that interception usually gets called back.
