That's the world if internet forums. Lots of subcultures. I feel like we're all welcoming of any newbs as long as they aren't total douches.

Good post, may need to keep this up as a lexicon for newbies and others to refer to from time to time. I, personally, am having a hard time with (others?) What the heck is that?

What do you mean, then came the mods?

There were EPSN appointed moderators, like BruteSentiment, who were given the power to ban, etc. It got real ugly real fast on the Giants' board, as we were used to, how shall I put it, a pretty loose ship.

After that experiment, ESPN developed robo-mods, where certain language and certain spellings were automatically disallowed.

That's when many of the previous posters jumped ship, except the occasional foray to do battle with the ones who must not be named.

I am glad for this place. It feels more like the EPSN board back in the old days here.

FUD: Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. Specifically refers to "concern trolls" like Nolan, who is the ultimate example.

Concern Troll: A false flag pseudonym created by a user whose actual point of view is opposed to the one that the user claims to hold. The concern troll posts in Web forums devoted to its declared point of view and attempts to sway the group's actions or opinions while claiming to share their goals, but with professed "concerns". The goal is to sow fear, uncertainty and doubt within the group.
