The rebuild is underway! Smart move, jettisoning a promising young player for a prospect. That way, you lose an NHL tested young player and get a dice roll in return, without shedding those sweet expensive veteran contracts!

So is Forty.

If I'm Jackets management, I'm hiding Jeff Carter's skate laces.

Word is that deal hasn't happened. There was also supposedly a deal between the BJ's & the Islanders. Nabokov for Tyutin. It was supposedly going to be announced after the Islanders finished CHOKING against Colorado. As of right now there's no deal.

I apologize to all Capitals fans. Blowing a 2 goal lead going into the 3rd is the Islanders specialty.

Hockey Break
The Columbus Blue Jackets with the second move of day now trade D Fedor Tyutin to the New York Islanders in exchange for G Evgeni Nabokov.

edit:
Hockey Break
It is embarrassing for me to admit I may be wrong to say the least, however source telling me Nabokov deal not official, may not go through

Is that official? On the Islanders fan site they were saying it didn't happen. Nabby has a no trade clause. Arthur Staple of Newsday said it wasn't a done deal. Where are you getting this from Puck? I really hope it's true.

*Sigh*

First they give away a coach, and now they give away their best skating Defenseman to a Division rival. For a bag of Magic beans.

I am loading up on eggs and TP and finding Howson's house.

He makes the Nabokov trade, and I'm switching to more violent projectiles. In two trades he will have eliminated two of the three defensemen worth a fuck on this team.

Even if Russell was one of the guys who didn't care, they could have gotten so much more for him.

I hope the Nabokov trade is true, just because Nabokov was a dick about playing for the Islanders

I could tolerate Nabokov here. But not for Tyutin. And there would have to be the clear understanding that he is not the Number one.

I'd fire the goaltending coach and hire a veteran goalie (Tugnutt, Beezer, etc) to work with Mase on his positioning. Let Nabby have a few games to ride out the growing pains of the team and stand firm in net.

Mase is far too talented to be struggling like he is.

Dash is gonna be pissed

I'm happy for Kris Russell that he been freed from a bad situation in Columbus. Now Feaster just needs to cobble together a package to get Russell and Berglund from the Blues and all will be fine. :D

/Great trade by St. Louis, Hitch knows how good of a player Kris Russell is...

Ahh good point, I wasn't even thinking of the Hitchcock connection.

Still don't know why this trade was nixed. Could be Nabokov not being willing to waive his NTC or maybe Wang wasn't willing to take on Tyutin's contract. From the BJ's end it looks like they want to clear payroll. However it would have been a horrible deal for them. So maybe they just said forget it.

The Isles certainly need D. A little off topic, call me crazy, I thought they should have taken Hedman over Tavares, and made a huge push to sign Komisarek (Long Island native) that year. A D corps of Streit, Hedman, and Komisarek would have looked pretty good. As ridiculous as Tavares has been, I would have gone D.

Komisarek sucks. He's spent some time in the pressbox already this year. The Islanders made the right choice in Tavares. The one I didn't like was De Haan. I wanted Kulikov.

Great trade by St. Louis, Hitch knows how good of a player Kris Russell is...

If he's a young guy and Hitch wants him, you KNOW he's good.

I honestly can't think of anything (aside from trading Nash) that Howson could have done that would have been stupider. I must find out what Russell did. Because short of impregnating the GMs daughter and wife...

Seriously, this is Bryan Murray not even calling Chara levels of stupid.

It approaches trading Chara and Spezza for Yashin stupid.

So, funny story.
Got a call a little while ago and it was from the Blue Jackets. When I saw caller ID, I thought "They want me in net". But alas, they just wanted to know if I wanted to exchange my partial season ticket plan for a full season ticket plan. Great deal! Special pricing! I said "With that retard making trades like they just made, you should pay me to come to the games."

So the guy offered me four tickets to tomorrow night's game on the house.

So I have to decide if I go, and try to get the whole arena into a "HOWSON SUCKS" chant, or go with my original Saturday night plan which is watching OSU vs Northern MI at the Schott. Jackets hockey, or guys who actually compete?

Yeah. Not even close. Buckeyes.

From the Blue Jackets site:
The Blue Jackets announced a trade with the St. Louis Blues this morning, sending defenseman Kris Russell to St. Louis in exchange for defenseman Nikita Nikitin. The 6-foot-3, 217 pound native of Omsk, Russia debuted with the Blues last season, playing in 41 games and earning a +1 rating.

41 Games, +1... Well, he's apparently infinitely better than Aaron Johnson.

Not to quibble but that would be John Muckler not calling Chara level of stupidity.

OK. I've found a credible link to the Russell trade.

To me this is confusing from both sides.

I like Russell as a player but the Blues already have a pretty talented blueline. I don't see Russell getting many minutes, which a player of his type needs.

The BJs get rid of their most mobile D-man, who's young and salary controlled for a little while for a what looks like a 3rd pairing Russian plug. :L
