Cam Atkinson missed a few good chances that could have made this game going to OT.

Congrats Pens. Hoping that the home crowd spurs the boys on this Sunday. They are playing their asses off, but haven't gotten anything to show for it. Pens have just flat out smothered them.
The combination of speed and sacrifice was successful last year, they seem to be continuing that formula. 45 blocked shots in 2 games. Wow.

And actually I agree Calvert's hit is not suspendable and I am hoping he isn't so he can fill a roster spot.
Agreed on the stick-break to the back of the head/neck. The subsequent sucker punch while he's bent over in pain? Not so much.

Truthfully wasn't even thinking about that part of it.

Whichever, I'm not sure it'd be a great idea for the league to let it go. It didn't lead to an injury, but they kind of get themselves stuck with further incidents later in the playoffs if they let it slide. A player who makes a questionable or dirty hit could point to this and say, "Look, you didn't suspend Calvert, who wasn't even making a hockey play, so how can you punish me?"

Of course, we all know DoPS doesn't really care about consistency, so I guess just do whatever.

Well that ended a little chippy.

Gotta say, not liking the early trend of "cross check your opponent in the back of the neck". This was not the only game it has happened in already in these playoffs.

You dont f_ck around with the neck/spine area. Seems like players are doing it because it does not cross the current "line" of bad behavior, and that needs to be changed.

/edit for "I should have read the entire thread before posting" :D

Don't get me wrong it should be addressed but my mindset is so, lets say numb, in how the NHL dishes crap out. Since Kuhnhackl wasn't hurt and was laughing the NHL will give Calvert a free pass, beyond stupid but we know that is their policy as it seems.

Totally agree, my reasoning for it not being suspendable was due to the way the NHL is and not the fact it was a bonehead play and stupid behavior.

The chippiness after the game where Malkin was pissed I just hope, next game, he turns this into goals and not the Malkin that takes 3 dumb penalties in a row.

Since sticks break easily no suspension. Terrific logic. JFC this league is pathetic.

If this occurred during the game, wouldn't it be a misconduct?
