He's gotten better and that's undeniable. Bottom line.
And nobody should care until it is continued for at least another year, if not two. His stats are still substandard at best looking at the weapons he has. This is some serious recency bias for the Bortles crowd, lately.

I'm noticing a pattern with Bortles. He puts up really big numbers against the easy stuff. Bad pass defenses, garbage time, etc.

I think he could end up following the Eli Manning route. A bad QB who got hot for an improbable Super Bowl run and then fluctuated between average to above average for most of his career.

The bigger picture, though, is kind of like Josh Heupel. How excited can you be about someone who hasn't played anyone? Its not like I can say much because Mizzou signed Barry Odom to a contract extension. Its progress but progress against cupcakes.

Imo, Bortles has to win a playoff game or perform well in a playoff game to keep his job. I could be wrong but the Jaguars are a team that could otherwise win a Super Bowl.

All I know is I am currently making sure that JAX is one of the games I have set to record.

Bortles is playing as well as he needs to play, plus a little bit more. And few mistakes.

A good recipe.

They don't have Sherman or Chancellor and they are still a possible top 10 secondary.
No, they are not. Since Week 11, the first game without Sherman/Chancellor, Seattle is 24th in opponent passer rating, 24th in opponent's passing yards, 23rd in opponent's yards per attempt, 23rd in opponent completion percentage.

They do not resemble a top 10 secondary at all.

I think even if Bortles were to continue to play well and take the team to the SB, all we would hear and read is the ole "yeah, but" and the comparison to Trent Dilfer in Baltimore. It's not totally unfair either because of his history but if the Jags were to upset the Steelers and Pats and even win a SB, the defense will get the credit regardless if he played lights out or not. It is what it is.

Statistically, they are 13th against the pass and have allowed the 9th fewest passing TD on the year.

With Sherman/Chancellor: 217.8 passing yards allowed per game
Without Sherman/Chancellor: 224.75 passing yards allowed per game

7 yards per game isn't that huge of a difference. Not saying they are a good secondary, but statistically throughout the year, they've been a top 10 or close to a top 10 secondary.

You said they've been a top 10 secondary even without Sherman/Chancellor. They've been a bottom 10 secondary in the last 5 weeks without those two.

That's just a fact.

Blake Bortles?

Even when the results are good, he still looks awful throwing the ball

When Jacksonville gets eliminated this January, it wont be the running game, it wont be that defense

You know what it will be

Well I don't think I ever said they were a top 10 secondary. I said a possible top 10. And that is also statistically, not the eye test.

As I watch the Jags move into the playoffs I can see the future. And that future will eventually lead to a 31-7 ass kicking by the Pats or Steelers.

The point of this thread was whether he was a bust or if he could get better. He has gotten better. That entire team has gotten better. He's more accurate and he is throwing less INTs. He's better with the ball, still isn't good enough to make a run, but he is getting better.

Better than winning 3-4 games with a top 5 pick in next year's draft.

He's had a nice 3-game run.
