I suspect this is just a guy emotional after the playoffs, but wow:

During an appearance on “The Cook and Poni Show” on 93.7 The Fan, Roethlisberger said he didn’t know how much longer he’d be playing and stopped short of confirming that he would be returning for the 2017 season.

“I’m going to take this offseason to evaluate, to consider all options,” Roethlisberger said. “To consider health, and family and things like that and just kind of take some time away to evaluate next season, if there’s going to be a next season. All those things. I think at this point in my career, at my age, that’s the prudent and smart thing to do every year.”

Well it seems like hes always banged up. His body must feel like shit nowadays. Be smart for him, he takes some serious damage year in and out.

Not too surprising. Has mentioned regrets about playing with concussions before- and rather quietly he lead the league in interceptable passes. He's definitely in decline.

He does play in a way where he takes a lot of punishment. But I still think he is just being melodramatic.

Yes and no. Will he likely retire this year? No. Is he thinking about that possibility? Naive to think otherwise.

He has basically dropped from top 2 in 2014, to top 5 in 2015, to top 8 in 2016.

If he wants to go out without the usual post prime play that most good QBs have then now would be the time.

Ben and Bud Dupree taking pretty solid shots at Tomlin and the coaching staff

Also a lot of players saying Antonio Brown is "All about his personal stats"

This loss is sending shockwaves through that org

Never really was sold on Tomlin beyond just being a solid coach. Stuff like this (and his scheme on D) definitely doesn't surprise me when shit hits the fan. He's a phenomenal players guy normally so a bit of positive momentum and they're back where they are unless Ben goes into a death spiral.

What funny is that I knew going into this that if the Patriots won the AFC then everyone would be calling out the KC and Pitt coaches.

Nobody wants the silver or the bronze but KC wasnt going anywhere with Alex Smith and Pitt wasnt going to beat NE or ATL with its secondary.

He has nothing to prove. If he wants to be able to walk up a flight of stairs when he is 50, retiring now isn't a bad idea.

Steelers don't fire coaches, and I always Loved Tomlin, the GUY.....But he does really seem to look like a boy amongst men in the big moment

I don't think it was so much the loss that made him look bad, as much as how brutal it was, how easily dismantled his team was

I think a little post game depression is setting in for the Steelers.

They made it to the AFCCG, which is hardly a failure, and I think they have a decent shot at it again next year.

well that and he has 2 kids .. guess he may want to spend some time with them while he can still remember their names ... so if he retires then he retires ben has got to do what is the best for himself and his family .. if he retires we will miss having him but hey life goes on .. he gave that team his all through the years he deserves to be able to retire and enjoy his life with his family ..I wish him the best of luck but still hope to see him play next season

Yeah i didn't really follow Pitt this year, they are one of the teams i used to follow when the Raiders really sucked. Anyway in the Playoff game it was the first time i saw his passes looked really Peyton Manning later years ish.

As a sidenote: the NFL losing Big Ben would likely be a pretty big blow unless Mariota and Carr make the playoffs next year.

The AFC QB scene is really lackluster right now

Its awful.........It pains me to say this, but the Pats didn't even break a sweat all the way to the SB this season

Ben retires? How easy will it get for NE the next couple?

Does Oakland put together a threatening enough defense?

Do Denver or KC improve enough at the QB position?

I cant think of many teams that would even be in the conversation........Marriotta and the Titans are a loooong way off from being SB threats IMO

To be fair, neither did the Falcons.

Big Ben was still plenty good enough for the Steelers to contend for a ring. Their problem was a horrid secondary and a lack of pass rush. When you are starting James Harrison, clearly, you have had some issues with talent at OLB. The offense for the Steelers was pretty good for the most part.
