That would actually be Eddie George and his pathetic 3.6 yards per carry. How this guy is considered a great back I'll never understand.

Olandis Gary, Mike Anderson, Clinton Portis, Rueben Droughns, Tatum Bell, Mike Bell, Selvin Young and Travis Henry disagree

What do those guys have to do with Eddie George averaging 3.6 yards per carry?

Marshall Faulk shouldn't even be in the poll.
In terms of different time period?

True or False: The Cowboys had one of the 3 best offensive lines in the history of football when Emmitt Smith was playing.

Why are Mike Alstott and Daryl Johnston on this list?

wow...just wow
Are you surprised I defended Faulk or surprised that I think that the Cowboys had arguably the best oline of all time?

Barry Sanders behind the Dallas oline might have been bigger than Michael Jordan

I voted for Faulk, but if you look at his stats his best seasons actually came in the early 2000s, so he is debatable.

IDK about that. Sanders wasn't a downhill-set up blockers type runner that could maximize a great power oline.

However, he could have done better with a more athletic oline with guys that are great at getting to the edge. Like what Philly had a few years ago with Peters, Mathis, Lane Johnson, etc.

I'm not surprised at much reading this board. How many HOF guys did that line produce? Wouldn't that be a fair measuring stick to your statement of ALL TIME? Don't get me wrong, Dallas had the best line in football at the time and also the best runningback for that given time (HANDS DOWN). Dallas players and fans know full well what emmitt smith did for those great dallas teams. It was there week after week....tough yards, pass receptions, blocking. whatever the job required.

IMO...Sweetness followed by Emmitt were the most complete runningbacks I've ever seen and thus the best. Barry followed by Gale Sayers the best pure runners and game breaker on any one play.

Ask Emmitt today and he'll tell you Walter and Barry were better. It's more than a stretch to say Faulk was.

My follow up question would be: has there been any great RB in your mind since Smith? I feel like RB is a position that is filled with nostalgia at this point since they have become so devalued.

I don't really have too much of an issue with people not seeing the value in Faulk or to a lesser extent someone like Thurman Thomas. But to say Faulk shouldn't even be on the list like the other texas guy said is just foolish homer pride.

Faulk yards per attempt in the 90's:
4.1
3.7
3.0
4.0
4.1
5.5

Yeah, that's a fair statement

YES SIR...and I reserve the term "great" more often than not

Faulk was a great runningback, as was Curtis Martin. I just don't put them ahead of what emmitt was as a player.
I think both Martin & Faulk woulda kept the Dallas offense rolling as Emmitt did....I remain very unsure Barry woulda. As great as Barry was with a football under his arm, not sure Dallas wins as Dallas won had Barry been there instead of emmitt or faulk/martin....just an opinion
