CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Bengals this week are scheduled to work out longtime Indianapolis Colts outside linebacker Dwight Freeney, a league source told ESPN.

After losing veteran pass-rusher Wallace Gilberry in free agency this spring, the Bengals are exploring their options in hopes of possibly adding depth there.

A mid-season addition to Arizona's roster last October, Freeney made a major impact for the Cardinals defensively. Despite appearing in just 11 games and playing 245 snaps, the 36-year-old recorded eight sacks and forced three fumbles. His eight sacks led all Cardinals defenders. Pro Football Focus credited Freeney with having the sixth-best pass-rush productivity among 3-4 outside linebackers.

I was wondering if this might happen.... Someone asked Hobson about it in his weekly mailbag and he didn't complete discount it (like he does every other potential signing). Made me think he had a tip.

Limit his snaps, and keep him fresh. I like it.

James Harrison, but not as good. Hard pass on him. We have that one idiot who never played football til he was 19 at DE anyways. We're good to go.

Freeney had 8 sacks last year... Harrison hasn't had 8 sacks since 2010. Harrison looks good in the weight room, but really hasn't been relevant for half a decade.
