Weird.
Always liked him. Bad situation in Tenn. Wouldn't suck to have him as the 3rd string option, or use him as trade bait (or open the door for AJ to be traded) down the road.
I have as well...the OP is right...the whole situation with Mett has been weird...a knucklehead at UGA...they had to boot him (his mom was employed by the Univ at the time) got his act together at LSU and got hurt his SR yr. which killed his draft stock.
As a pro...TN just never had a support group around him...OL, WR, RB were all average to bad. They are just now starting to address these positions after investing in Mariota who would've headed down the same path otherwise.
He's a decent #2 right (imo a better talent than McCarron right now) now that could develop into a starter...SD is ideal...Rivers is the man for the next 2 yrs at least...this guy can slide in there and take the reins.
I wouldn't put him above McCarron..... I don't know why people sleep on McCarron. The guy came in and started during a playoff run, winning his first game on the road. He had the team poised to take a 17 point first half lead IN DENVER on MNF..... That's the same Denver team that basically won a championship on defense. He also had Pittsburgh beat in the playoffs after leading his team back to take a 4th quarter lead. I think McCarron is criminally underrated and I think he'll be a solid starter within the next 3 years.

You're right...I need to cut AJ some slack...but we have to temper that a little...pretty talented roster around him.
My point here...if both were starters...Mett has a higher ceiling.
I think the reason people sleep on AJ is that he's got a low talent ceiling. He's solid, but he's never going to wow you like Mett could. If things clicked right for Mett, he could be a huge star. Big arm, mobile (not a running QB, but mobile enough to be a threat).
AJ has a decent arm, and sneaky mobility, but lacks the overall talent depth of a guy like Mett. That's not a knock on him, because all he does is get the job done and win. In reality, that's all anyone should ever want, but you know how GM's and coaches/Owners fall in love with "Potential" and "Big Arms", etc....

The organization (and therefore public) sleeps on AJ bc he might be just as good or better than Dalton if he were to get consistent 1st team reps
that's true of just about any average QB in the NFL.
if Dalton decided to quit we could probably get Sanchez in here with minimal impact. He's a nice guy, and not a terrible QB, but people talk like he's the second coming of "Boomer Anderson" around this place.

so sick of people saying "if Dalton didn't break his thumb we would have won the superbowl."
yea, I wish.
maybe he'll improve next year, but that's clearly wrong.
sigh.
so now Dalton is better than Peyton Manning. ok. fine. I guess now that Manning is retired Dalton is pretty much better. he's also better than all the other QBs who have either retired or died, unless any of them are planning to come out of retirement, then I can't comment on those. for the record I am not saying that the qbs who have died are going to come out of retirement. in case my former english teacher ir reading this.
