If thybulle dunks it like he should’ve.

The sixers still lose

Are we still having this convo

We'll never know. But the minute that play happened I texted some friends and said, this is going to be his last game as a Sixer. He will never live that play down.

Wait…Thybulle is the guy who should have dunked this? He goes to the rack and gets bodied on the way up. Not sure how you hold the opinion that him finishing this was anything close to a certainty. When Simmons gets base line here he is 6’10” vs 6 ft Young. Weird hot take that doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.

He double pumps rather just going up strong and dunking it home.

I’m on board with shared blame. I think most are. The debate comes in laying out what percentage parties have for the blame. Is it mostly Simmons? Is it mostly the Sixers? Is it split down the middle? We’ve both coached before. I teach. Where I am on this stuff is two fold. You can lead the horse to water but you can’t make it drink. At the same time, the measure of greatness in a coach or teacher is the ability to get as many horses to drink the water as you can. The GOATs in that realm can attain exceptional buy in.

Imo, prior to this off-season, most of this falls on Ben. Sure, the Sixers contributed by apparently coddling him, but at the end of the day, as someone else posted, Ben is a grown man and ultimately...it's his responsibility to work on and improve his game. It's not like he doesn't know what the holes in his game are. So prior to that, it's mostly on Ben.

But the Sixers have spent the off-season closing the gap. I don't know as that I'd say it's 50/50...but it's real close.

I agree that it's about how many horses you can get to drink and the best coaches do the best job at that. But, another saying that works for coaching, teaching (and life)...when someone tells you who they are...believe them.

Ben has spent his career showing the Sixers who he is and they didn't believe him. I think they finally do.

I heard this on Cowherd (who is usually taken with a grain of salt around here)...he said that the word on Simmons was out before he was drafted. Apparently one scout (who he named, but I missed it) said: "not coachable...at all", "doesn't handle adversity", "could be a good teammate, or a horrible one. I'm just not sure".

I think it’s still 50/50 he completes the dunk with that action. Either way, the pass up of the dunk for a lesser shot is just Simmons in a microcosm. Real champions want to have the ball in their hands in those spots and that’s why it still resonates months later.

I think there’s a mental block for sure.

We’ve all seen the video of him popping 3s playing pickup

Additionally, a mental health issue is not something a medical professional can call bull shit on. No X-rays. No physical evaluations. Smart move.

He’s going to actually spend time with a medical professional.

This will be fun.

He may have mental health issues, I have no idea. But you have to question the timing at this point.

Ben's been through a lot. Get him all the help he needs.

Tbh he probably does have mental issues. He can't fathom the fact he could be a great player if he attempts to shoot the ball past 9 feet. I mean I cannot come to any other reasoning.

He's never going to be mentally ready to perform in that hostile work environment.

Sixer fans: Simmons is a broken loser. The team will never win with him.

Also sixer fans: Morey should only trade Simmons for Lillard, maybe kawhi….

Superstar player and 3 first round picks or else Morey is hanging up right away.
