Was it? If Simmons as a pick was better researched that pick should have been Ingram.

100%

Simmons has been more valuable than Ingram throughout his career until the drama with Philly this summer.

And even then, I am not sure Ingram is more valuable in trade.

Better fit probably. But you should always draft best talent at 1.

And Ingram took awhile to blossom.

There was essentially no debate that Simmons was the right choice at the time. That he chose to refuse to improve his game doesn't change that.

The Sixers should have traded Simmons and kept Butler. Of course that is much easier said than done.
For anyone that wanted to poke around and probe beyond Brett Brown vouching for the family, there was already a ton of evidence that he was uncoachable and a bad teammate.

I guess. I don't recall hearing any of those claims other than he didn't want to be at LSU which was understandable at the time.

That is all fine.

And despite that evidence, Simmons was arguably the most valuable trade asset in the entire league after his first 2 seasons while still on his rookie deal.

Draft him, then trade him for whatever you want once you know for sure he isn’t coachable.

Thing is, it's not like the Sixers were alone. Most teams would have taken Simmons with that pick. The fact that he hasn't lived up to it, doesn't mean it was seen as a bad pick at the time.

It's like when the Lakers traded for Dwight and Steve Nash...in hindsight, it was a mistake. At the time...any GM that had the opportunity is making that trade.

Simmons was the consensus No. 1. There were a few contrarians saying that the Sixers should consider Ingram but it was half-hearted. Simmons had the potential to be a transcendent player. But he chose not to put the time and effort into being great.

Lakers would've jumped all over Simmons IMO.

It's not like Ingram has won anything yet. Simmons' defensive ability could still prove out to be the better asset.

For a player of Simmons size and ability, he would have been best served going to Europe and taking a route similar to Luka. Ben Simmons was never forced to develop an all around game because he could do anything he wanted against the competition he played. So add in him never wanting to go to college and it’s clear he’s that guy who just takes the easier path. Why he’s not a championship kind of player.

Best case for the nba is Simmons loses on procedural grounds as a decision on the merits is no win for the nba
The players better hope that Simmons does not win this. If he does the owners will get mid evil in the next agreement, as they should.

I disagree

They can’t be publicly anti mental health

That’s why they need a procedural ruling

Procedural grounds…
Let’s hope that the Sixers have been good at documenting refusals to cooperate and hang him on a technicality because this sets a path for abuse of a very serious issue…very bad for the optics for the NBA. They need to make this look like a punt of the actual issue. The first time a player gets an award returned to him it needs to be a situation where the employer doesn’t have a dispute with the player and it looks like it’s benevolent and it’s “hey, we would be helping him rehab any other on court injury. This is no different.” Blah blah blah. If it’s this one it just looks like someone gaming the system.

They damn sure can be when it’s widely known he is full of shit. Only a real POS puts the NBA in this situation.
