The problem is the 14 million of filler needed. The sixers already lose the better player in the deal AND they have to find 14 million of filler to get it done? That means they have to give up Danny Green and/or Seth Curry just to make it work. That's why any Russ deal has to be a three teamer that would also entail somebody taking on Tobias Harris.

I don't think the Lakers would have an issue trading Westbrook for Simmons and Green or Curry. :heh:

Seriously though, I agree it would have to be a 3 teamer.

It would, but we really don't need another guy who can't shoot on this team.
In theory he can make your shooters better. Nobody in the league assisted on more 3s last year than Ben Simmons.

Ideally, we would be moving a player who can't shoot and improving the defense. Plus, still having someone who can take some of the playmaking burden off of Lebron.

Highly unlikely it happens, but if the chance is there, the Lakers should look into it.

I don't know.

Definitely would be risky.

But his elite level defense alone would be a huge help.
It's obviously not possible to do this but knowing how Westbrook fits or doesn't fit, would you swap Westbrook for Simmons? That probably improves your team.

Lakers don't have jack to offer for Simmons unless Philly really loves Westbrook, which they shouldn't. Westbrook wouldn't really make them better and I'm like 98% sure offers for Simmons from other teams would net them a better return. If the Lakers are involved in Simmons trade talk, it would make more sense if its as a facilitator as part of a larger multi-team trade. Like a team wants Simmons but for whatever reason, roster/cap situation/etc, Team A and Philly can't make it work, so they rope in the Lakers, someone else and there's tons of players swapping around. Its a good way for LA to move some of their low value awkward fit players in exchange for something else that normally wouldn't get done in straight up one for one deals.

I don't think the Sixers would want Westbrook to be honest. Even if THT and picks were added.

I would. I think it potentially improves both teams. I think Westbrook fits better with the Sixers than the Lakers. It's obviously a bit of a gamble for both, but one worth making, imo.

I don't either. If that trade happens, it would be because no one else has offered them anything better.

I don't know if Dame and Ben would work together very well

No, but it makes sense to try.

Especially since Portland's biggest issue is defense. The worst defense in the league this year, and clearly it wasn't just a coaching issue.

This remains a terrible trade for the Sixers.

CJ may be done for the year and wasn't playing all that well before he got hurt. He is redundant given the Sixers current backcourt.

Which is why the Sixers have already made it clear that they aren't interested in McCollum.

I think they could work pretty well. 2 good ball handlers that can distribute. They would be pretty dangerous in transition as well. I think even the pick and roll would be effective with those 2.

Would Dame wanna backcourt mate that's a liability on the floor late in close games because of his FT% and has no outside game?

It’s what you need offensively.

Covington is exactly the kind of guy every playoff team needs

You can make other moves.

Espn has a good article about who they will likely get, the other guys have other fit issues as well.

It will be fascinating to see how this plays out though for sure

You talking about this article....

Certainly a McCollum-for-Simmons trade works straight-up moneywise, but Philadelphia would want more back in return. For a deal to get done, Portland's Cronin would need to decide how much is too much.

Regardless, unless CJ can get cleared to play this season there is no reason to trade for him before the deadline.

Yes. That article. I’m surprised that a team that wants to go to the finals they don’t mention a guy like cov who gives them immediate help right now.

And agreed That health is an issue.

oh hell no GIF

Well,

The Lakers don’t have the assets to get Simmons, so it ain’t happening.

But he would be a massive upgrade and would help the team.

Also, keep in mind he is a Klutch client, so he probably has a good relationship with Bron.

You think defense is a big problem for the Sixers? How would Cov even fit on the team? Starter or as a backup with Thybulle on the floor with him?

It's all moot anyway. They aren't trading for McCollum. Not with him being busted.
