Yup. Can’t disagree at all. Maybe the Sox have some plans with the $3-4m they save here??

Red Sox signed C Chris Herrmann to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Herrmann was with the Giants in 2020 but never got the call from their alternate training site. The eight-year veteran is a career .205/.282/.344 hitter and will serve as organizational depth at catcher for Boston.

I guess they wanted to clear that Benintendi salary before formally announcing this one.

“Sawamura has a fastball that can reach 97 mph, a low-90s splitter that functions as his primary out pitch, and a slider.”

Good enough for me. They need all the pitching they can get.

Reading some interesting comparisons Benentendi/Daren Erstad.

Both successful (almost mirror images) 22-24 years old, both fell off a cliff at 25.

Erstad rebounded in a huge way at age 26 (.951 OPS, led all of MLB in hits)

KC gambling that like Erstad, Benentendi didn't all of a sudden lose his hit tool at age 25.

I'm thinking it's a good gamble.

I never really realized how similar Erstad was (offensively anyway). He played an incredible center field

Good comparison. I like it. Both guys were key pieces on a Championship team, too.

I figured Benintendi was due to bounce back strong this year. He was another one that seemed lost without Mookie in the lineup around him last year. JDM had the same issue.

A couple red flags with Benintendi worth noting: he really has regressed into being a platoon player over time. He has not handled lefties at all lately. He also lost some of his speed which cost him SB’s and range in the OF. I guess Bloom figured $6m for a platoon OF was a bit steep. We’ll see. I like his chances of rebounding in 2021.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the Red Sox have reached agreement on a deal with Marwin Gonzalez.

Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reports that the 31-year-old will get $3 million for the 2021 season. Gonzalez is one of the most versatile players in the game; capable of playing all over the field. The success with the bat was not there in 2020, however, with a .211/.286/.320 slash in 199 plate appearances. The Red Sox also have the ever-so-versatile Enrique Hernandez, and it's not hard to imagine that Boston will have both playing multiple positions again in 2021, although Hernandez should be the favorite to play second base to begin the year.

There you go. They just signed Marwin Gonzalez for $3m. Marwin and Cora go way back to the trash can banging days together. This is a decent move for short money.

Kiké and Marwin are probably upgrades over Chavis, Dalbec, Renfroe, Franchy and a few others that figure to play quite a bit. This team still doesn’t seem to have a CF?

Just venting- As an original Rockies season ticket holder, my partner and I have decided to drop our season tickets. The ownership in Denver is a mess. they have shown no interest in assembling a competitive team and now they are in complete salary dump mode. Without a sale of the team which is not even being contemplated the Rockies won't compete for years and now without Arenado and probably Story there is no excitement. I am disgusted.
OK- end of rant!

Great move if he looks more like the Houston Marwin.

Pesky ass hitter.

His first season with the Twins (sans trash cans) he was a solid player as well. Last year, he was one of the worst players on the team. But that can be chalked up to 2020 being a very weird year overall.
