You have to look beyond the decisions. Here are the best pitchers this year by xFIP. Not to get too nerdy but it basically strips out defense and park size.


Sixth best in all of baseball. If he had an average defense and played in a neutral stadium, he'd be something like 10-4.

The difference between his ERA (4.15) and his xERA (2.97) is the largest among all qualified major-league starting pitchers. 1.2 runs per 9 innings pitched. That's kind of unheard of. Super, super unlucky and that's just the EARNED runs.

Simply put, a top 10 pitcher in the game this year and you'd never know it.
