Wow, that is a crazy trade. I thought they had a pretty solid defense in Carolina, why break that up? Great move for the Giants as he will be a HUGE upgrade.

Wasn't it only a year ago that commentators spoke of Beason in the same breath as Patrick Willis as one of the best LBs in the NFL?

Beason lost a lot of explosiveness. He's a shell of his former self IMO. He was being outplayed by Chase Blackburn and some other guy during camp / preseason. He still managed to win a starting gig as an outside linebacker. Kuechly is head and shoulders better than Beason, yet Beason is a natural MLB which probably explains his struggles to adjust and play at a very high level as an OLB. Anyway, it's a good gamble for the Giants as they plan to insert him back to his more natural MLB position. We shall see...

I agree send Smith to a winner. Poor guy give him a shot. If we got Smith watch out. imagine Crabtree, Boldin and Smith. OMG

I was a huge Beason fan. I'm not sure he's the same player he was a few years ago. Still, that could be a huge move for the Giants.

I can't ever recall a season with so many mid-season trades. And pretty big names, if none other than Richardson that would qualify as huge.
