Its football, and any team "can" win, but its not likely if you ask me. If SF gets any kind of lead and starts pounding the ball, we're done.

No fucking way the Bills win. I just hope they can be competitive.

Yea, I don't know one analyst that had the Bills over the Bears on any prediction sites.

Turnovers. That's how upsets happen. Last week San Francisco exploited that with the Cowboys to win a lot more decisively than they should have, and last week that's how the Bills upset us.

If we're stealing this, we need to win the turnover battle. This isn't the Bears defense of 2012 though... they are going to have to become opportunists again on that side of the ball. On the other side, Cutler has to clean up mistakes, receivers have to stay on the same page with their routes, and anyone who touches a football has to hold on to it.

Can we defend the read option? It doesn't look like it... this is a SF strength against a Bears weakness. Our offense can put up points with the best of them though and keep it close. But the only way we cross the threshold is if we win that war over the loose ball and errant pass.

The 2012 Bears defense that you speak of got manhandled 32-7 by virtually the same 49ers team.

The only glimmer of hope the 2014 Bears team has this time around is that the Niners don't have Bowman and Aldon Smith, two key Pro Bowlers on that defense.

With those two guys out, it might be easier for the Bears to play ball control and keep the Niners offense off the field and score some points in the process. Matt Forte running the ball and the short passing game will be key, IMO.

I don't see the Bears defense causing any turnovers, so the Bears offense has to play mistake-free football to give themselves a chance to win. Again, all of this is highly unlikely, but it's really the only scenario where I see the Bears winning this game.

That was the belief before the Bears were exposed. First game of the season. Now everyone outside of Chicago knows how and the Bears really are.

No fucking way the Bears win.

If the Bears win the turnover battle. they will win. SF is a good team but far from unbeatable. Bears are a good team too. 1 off week does not change my mind in any way.

The only??? How about we know what's comming this time around. We had no clue and no preparations for their running QB last time around. He only started because of a injury to Smith. This time we can game plan for him. That is huge.

You're crazy noon. We couldn't even beat the bears at home. What makes you think we can beat a team with a much better defense, a much better offense, and in a town where we haven't even been able to keep games close? I fully expect cutler to make more boneheaded plays and think we will get blown out.

I highly doubt they get blown out. They'll play tough, I believe.

God, what is it about week 1 games that always makes people freak the hell out? Whether it's positive or negative. Don't people have any perspective at all? It's such a god damned long season. The body of work was so small, and it was damn clear we caught a shit load of bad breaks in that loss. Marshall and Jeffery going down would be the most glaring.

I wish ya the best, but I can't see any way (yeah, yeah.....it's POSSIBLE) the Bears can match up talent wise with SF. If this game were in ChiTown in December, I'd give 'em a shot at an upset, but week 2 in SF?...Nah.

Probability is on your side, but SF has its issues. Bears are a team that can exploit them, will they? That's the question.

If you look deeper at the SF/Dallas game the turn overs really were the key, Dallas was having their way with us before Romo made some horrible decisions, DeMarco Murray was gaining huge chunks of yardage and the Boys were moving the ball relatively easy down the field. SF rarely puts 8 in the box as our coordinator has a lot of trust in the front 7 and will usually have both Safety's playing deeper. This might change on Sunday night but I wouldn't count on it unless the Bears just start to run wild on us.

I think Dallas has a more solid O Line then Chicago so I think we will be able to pressure Cutler a bit more then Romo, Matt Forte will be the key in this one I think if he has a huge night and Cutler can protect the ball It will be a really tight game that could come down to a FG or whoever has final possession.

I agree, our strength has always been the LB Corp, which with Smith and Bowman out has gone from best in the NFL to what I would say is an ok unit.

The score of the 49ers / Dallas game is a bit deceiving... 14 of 28 points basically were scored by SF defense (one TD and one 2 yard short field TD to Davis after turnover). This is Dallas defense that is not very good.. and the 49ers offense was only able to put up 14 points on their own.

Dallas offense had almost 400 yards of offense and rushed for over 5.0 yards/carry. Romo shot their offense in the foot too often... not going to win with 4 team turnovers.

Bears offense > Dallas offense
Bears defense > Dallas defense

If Cutler and Bears protect the ball and do not turnover the ball I think Bears win this game. Key is Cutler will need to protect the ball... something he struggles with at times.

Since last off season, I've been ranting for the Bears to look at Jim Leavitt, your LB coach, as a potential replacement for Mel Tucker, our DC. Is he coordinator material in your opinion, or is he just along for the ride with an already stacked coaching staff and defensive talent?

I don't think the Bears talent on defense will be able to stop the read option and Colin Kaepernick even if they're more prepared mentally. Going out there on the field and executing against this offense is much different than just being prepared for it. That's the reason why I said the only hope the Bears have is to control the game on the ground offensively by attacking the Niners defense with a heavy dose of Matt Forte and the short passing game. JMHO.

The larger point was that we would need to win the turnover battle the way our 2012 defense tended to do. In that game in 2012 against the 49ers, we lost the turnover battle 2-0. This actually supports the point more than it conflicts with it.

It's hard to disagree with any of this. I would just add being disciplined on the edge defensively... try to keep Kaepernick from getting outside the hashmarks... limit bad decisions on offense (which running and a commitment to a short passing game as you mentioned would do)... and hopefully find a mistake or two that we can take advantage of on either side of the ball.

I'd also be wary of looking at the success of Demarco Murray last week on the ground as a road map for us... that game was long lost by halftime. I'm sure SF would have puckered up some against the run if the game wasn't already in hand.
