Matt Barrows:

Told that Jim Harbaugh's cancelled conference call was due to a scheduling snafu not any health emergency. All is well.

Is it possible that: scheduling snafu = I don't want to discuss the QB dilemma?

What's the difference between talking tonight and tomorrow morning/afternoon?

Prep time perhaps? Maybe, time to talk to the players first? Just a couple thoughts that come to mind.

I wouldn't ever say for sure or not myself, but on this one I highly doubt there's much more to it than what they said.

Just for the sake of clarity, I'm certainly not suggesting it is a conspiracy; however, the timing does lend itself to curiosity.

No, I meant Smith would be in on it too. The deception would just be aimed at the media. Since they are the ones chopping at the bit to turn this into a shitstorm.

I was pretty sure the doctors wouldn't lie, but was wondering if Harbaugh can lie and keep him on the injury report. Or maybe just call it "precautionary measures" and let Smith rest another game since CK filled in nicely... just something to buy time and give CK a 2nd game.

Because, damn does the media go nuts when a team makes a switch but then goes back to the original starter... I was just thinking outloud if the 49ers could be a little untruthful about Smith's concussion just to avoid that circus if CK sunk and the 49ers had to go back to Smith.

Why would Smith be in on it? I imagine he'd want the fewest starts for Kaep as possible. He cares about the team, but he's not going to go along with a falsity allowing the challenger another game, this time against a worse defense and having more experience. If he could start, he wouldn't turn it down just to gamble that Kaep struggles. Be in on a conspiracy to create a QB controversy in the hopes to kill that QB controversy, with a guy (Kaep) trying to make it a controversy?

The only way I'd see Smith in on it is if he's fine and will start but report issues just to get the Saints to prepare for Kaep instead of Smith (I don't see how this would be that difficult, though; Kaep was the hard one to prepare for last minute, not Smith). I'm not understanding Smith's side to this. Could you clarify re: motivation other than stupid loyalty (not calling your idea stupid, just that someone would have to be super loyal to risk this for no apparent reason). I might be entirely misunderstanding your scenario, so apologies in advance. Smith and Harbaugh are close, but not that close, IMO.

It will be interesting to see if PFF will hold their line on Aldon vs. the official NFL #'s

Not sure if this has been addressed yet, but in another of their articles they mention that they don't acknowledge half-sacks, but instead consider any portion of a sack a full sack.

Now that you mention it, I do seem to recall something like that.

Gamesmanship.

By not talking about the QB situation it bought another day of the Saint's having no real clue as to who Harbaugh is going to play.

Still taking notes on the game and when I watched the game live I may have missed Kaepernick's most special throw of the night. It was the throw he made to Davis with 12:35 left in the 3rd quarter on 3rd and 11. That throw was special.

Briggs shot through the A-gap untouched and almost immediately forced Kaepernick to get rid of the ball. Kaepernick hung in the pocket and changed his release point on the throw and zipped it over two defenders and put it RIGHT on the money to Davis. Only problem was Davis didn't get the first after bouncing off the hit by the safety. What a throw!

That's the throw I was talking about in the other QB thread. Someone said its a throw Smith makes all the time.

Also, it was off his backfoot.
