Rangers' Shawn Tolleson: Takes loss with fourth blown save
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

After having just two last season, Tolleson's blew his fourth save of 2016 against the A's on Tuesday. He gave up a walk-off grand slam to Khris Davis after giving up three hits and walking one while recording just two outs.

Tolleson has allowed seven runs on three home runs in his last two outings. He has a 9.20 ERA on the season and opponents are hitting .343 off him. It was about this time last season that manager Jeff Banister pulled Neftali Feliz out of the closer's role and went with Tolleson. "I definitely have a level of concern," Banister said. "That's one I'm not ready tonight to make a decision on. Obviously his fourth blown save, it's a challenge. We've got to be able to make pitches and end the game ... close the game out after we fought back and took the lead."

Hill has pitched very well so far, does the Ranger offense get anything going off of him tonight?

I didn't realize how well he was throwing until listening to some talking-heads this morning. If I remember correctly, he's striking out like 10 for every 9 innings.

FYI....today's game is @ 2:30.

Since he served it last night that would be a "incorrect."

Yep these guys get lots of stuff wrong. I just posted it for the confirmation that the suspension was for throwing a punch at Pillar. That is if they didnt get that part wrong as well. I never really saw EA in the scrum, so I was surprised by him getting the 1 game. Especially when Bautista got one game. The rationale used by MLB was absurd in all of this

I just heard Bacsik propose a Brinson/Tate trade to the Yankees for the rental of Chapman from the Yankees.

Takers?
We are fine in the pen. We don't need to trade for anyone for the pen.

You quoted the source. But it still surprises me, since he posted it yesterday and it's the biggest story in baseball right now, he somehow couldn't even get this correct.

In my mind, I'd still be "aggressive" toward that SOB Bat-shit-tista next time we got a chance.

No. Make that hell no. You don't ever trade top prospects for a closer. The Astros gave up Velasquez for Ken Giles and that quickly blew up in their faces. Now obviously Chapman is much better and more proven than Giles. But Chapman is the piece you trade for if closer is the only missing piece to a definite World Series berth. I'd say the Rangers are in the mix of top teams, but they've got enough holes to where Chapman doesn't really put them over the top.

Dyson can close. Or Bush. Or Diekman. Or as Rev suggested, a committee of those guys without a defined closer. If you're trading the likes of Brinson and Tate, it had better be for a Chris Sale or at the very least Sonny Gray... a third TORP to group with Hamels and Darvish.

I am not sure I would say fine. We have 2 guys I have feel comfortable in with Dyson and Diekman. Barnette I like and the rest are like a yo-yo. They are not consistent. I know you included Jackson earlier and he could have the stuff to do well but he has not shown that yet, not even in the minors. I mean in 14.2 IP he has given up 10 hits and 10 walks. And walks usually are more difficult to come by in the minors because the players are trying to hit their way to the big leagues. But he has the stuff to put it past the hitter.

If anyone has the time, or inclination, please go back to my post # 260 and tell me what you think.

Never mind here it is. I just thought if nothing else someone, anyone, would get a laugh out of it.

I guess events like this just bring out all the redneck in me, but here's something I've often thought when those bench-clearing-brawls breakout.

If I were in the PB and knew there was someone in their pen I wanted to kick-the-shit out of, why waste all that time and energy running into the scrum? Fights over a lot of times by the time you get there anyway.

And if you really wanted to take on someone, you could have a solid 30 seconds + to have some "quality" one-on-one time before anyone came to the rescue.

I am cutting Jackson some slack for just coming off an injury stint when he was in the minors earlier this year. Last year when he was relieving in the minors he was fantastic.

I just think that we have a whole lot of folks to choose from so that we can get enough guys pitching well to get us to and through the postseason. One guy I failed to mention earlier is Kela. He will be a huge addition at some point. To me we are actually more than fine long term. We have enough guys that even if we should we have an injury we should be able to get past that unless it is a devastating injury to one of our best relievers.

If you take Wilhelmsen's and Tolleson's meltdowns out of the mix we have been pretty good overall in the pen after those first few games. We can survive even if neither of those two guys contribute the rest of the season. I would not be shocked if at least one of those guys turned things around at some point, but if they don't I think we are still going to have a very good pen.

I certainly don't think we should be in the trade market for a reliever unless it is one of those deals where JD gets a quality piece for next to nothing.

JJT has reported Banister had decided Dyson will take over as closer.
Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News just tweeted the same thing. Hopefully it's true. I'm almost afraid to celebrate, though, because as soon as I do Banny will run Tolleson out there for the 9th again.

Couple days late and it was pretty obvious choice if it wasn't Shawn, based on track record and the other options. I still wouldnt have named anyone as the definitive closer necessarily and just gone with the best option available based on what the game dictates.

If Dyson is the closer then who takes Dysons previous role of " fire man" or get you out of a rough spot pitcher? Is it Bush?

He said the same thing last year. Except it was Mazara, Chi Chi and someone else for him.

Chapman is to Bacsik as Gray is to Grant.
